Claims
- 1. An antenna assembly for use in a wireless communication device having a ground plane and an input/output signal port, said antenna assembly comprising:
a dielectric substrate provided a predetermined distance away from the ground plane; a resonator element provided upon the dielectric substrate, said resonator element having a first conductive portion and a second conductive portion, with the first conductive portion being coupled to the ground plane at a first location and being coupled to the signal port at a second location, and with the second conductive portion separated from and electrically coupled to the first conductive portion via an elongated conductive element.
- 2. The antenna assembly of claim 1, wherein the first conductive portion is larger than the second conductive portion.
- 3. The antenna assembly of claim 1, wherein the second conductive portion is electrically coupled to the first conductive portion via a conductor coupled to the first conductive portion at a location different than the first and second locations.
- 4. The antenna assembly of claim 3, wherein the resonator element is skewed relative to the ground plane.
- 5. The antenna assembly of claim 1, further including at least one support element interposed between the resonator element and the ground plane.
- 6. The antenna assembly of claim 1, wherein the elongated conductive element is a wire conductor.
- 7. The antenna assembly of claim 6, wherein the wire conductor is curved over a substantial portion of its length.
- 8. The antenna assembly of claim 1, wherein the first conductive portion has an inwardly facing edge that is curved.
- 9. The antenna assembly of claim 8, wherein the second conductive portion has an inwardly facing edge that is curved.
- 10. The antenna assembly of claim 8, wherein the inwardly facing edges of the first and second conductive portions are convex.
- 11. The antenna assembly of claim 1, wherein the conducting element is adjacent a side of the dielectric substrate which is opposite to the first and second conductive portions.
- 12. An antenna assembly for use in a wireless communication device having a ground plane and an input/output signal port, said antenna assembly comprising:
a generally planar dielectric substrate supported a predetermined distance away from the ground plane; a resonator element provided upon the dielectric substrate, said resonator element having a first conductive portion and a second conductive portion, with the first conductive portion being coupled to the ground plane at a first location and being coupled to the signal port at a second location, and with the second conductive portion separated from and electrically coupled to the first conductive portion via an elongated conductive element.
- 13. An antenna assembly of claim 12, further comprising a plurality of LC trap assemblies each electrically coupled between one of the first and second conductive portions and the ground plane.
- 14. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the first conductive portion is larger than the second conductive portion.
- 15. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the second conductive portion is electrically coupled to the first conductive portion via a conductor coupled to the first conductive portion at a location different than the first and second locations.
- 16. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the resonator element is skewed relative to the ground plane.
- 17. The antenna assembly of claim 12, further including at least one support element interposed between the resonator element and the ground plane.
- 18. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the elongated conductive element is a wire conductor.
- 19. The antenna assembly of claim 18, wherein the wire conductor is curved over a substantial portion of its length.
- 20. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the first conductive portion has an inwardly facing edge that is curved.
- 21. The antenna assembly of claim 20, wherein the second conductive portion has an inwardly facing edge that is curved.
- 22. The antenna assembly of claim 21, wherein the inwardly facing edges of the first and second conductive portions are convex.
- 23. The antenna assembly of claim 12, wherein the conducting element is adjacent a side of the dielectric substrate which is opposite to the first and second conductive portions.
