Abstract
A transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, said transceiver circuit having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, the transceiver circuit being configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly. A base station and a mobile station comprising such a transceiver circuit, and a method for transmitting and receiving multi-standard, multi-band radio signals by using a transceiver circuit as mentioned.

Claims
  • 1. Transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly.
  • 2. The transceiver circuit according to claim 1, characterized by a conversion module capable of dealing with a large variety of frequency bands, different standards and at least two carriers,dedicated power amplifier modules distinguished by frequency range and power class, plusdedicated antenna modules.
  • 3. The transceiver circuit according to claim 2, characterized in that the conversion module comprises means for digital signal conditioning, digital/analogue and analogue/digital data conversion, modulation and up-conversion to the respective Radio Frequency band, plus a Radio Frequency feedback path.
  • 4. The transceiver circuit according to claim 3, characterized in that the digital signal conditioning part of the conversion module is software configurable in order to handle different types of modulation schemes.
  • 5. The transceiver circuit according to claim 2, characterized in that the large variety of frequency bands the conversion module is capable of dealing with reach from 0.9 GHz to 3.5 GHz.
  • 6. The transceiver circuit according to claim 2, characterized in that the different standards the conversion module is capable of dealing with comprise at least the GSM, UMTS and WiMAX standards.
  • 7. The transceiver circuit according to 2, characterized in that the conversion module is capable of dealing with up to four carriers.
  • 8. Base station comprising a transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, the transceiver circuit having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly.

Mobile station comprising a transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, the transceiver circuit having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly.

Method for transmitting and receiving multi-standard, multi-band radio signals by using a transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, the transceiver circuit having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, wherein the transceiver circuit is configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly, said method comprising the steps of: conversion of signals in a large variety of frequency bands, different standards and up to four carriers in a conversion module,performing amplification with a power amplifier optimized for a dedicated frequency band and a dedicated power class,using dedicated antenna modules optimized for said dedicated frequency band.
  • 11. The method according to claim 10, characterized by the additional step of: configuring a signal conditioning part of said conversion module via software in order to handle a desired type of modulation scheme.
  • 12. Computer program product stored on a computer usable medium comprising computer readable program means for causing a computer to configure a signal conditioning part of a conversion module of a transceiver circuit for transmission and reception of multi-standard, multi-band radio signals, the transceiver circuit having a modular design comprising exchangeable and removable modules with dedicated functionalities and well defined interfaces between said modules, the transceiver circuit being configurable via software, depending on the functionalities to be fulfilled by said transceiver circuit and to its particular modular assembly, the configuration being done via software in order to handle a desired type of modulation scheme, when said computer program product is executed on a computer.
