Claims
- 1. A method for storing and retrieving information on a magnetizable storage medium having a first major surface, the method comprising:forming individually magnetizable features on the storage medium, the features being arranged in an ordered, non-random pattern along a first, bitstream direction; storing information on the medium by selectively changing at least one magnetic state of the individual ones of the features, the change in the magnetic state of at least one of the features establishing a magnetic field in a direction which is transverse to the bitstream direction and which is parallel to the first major surface.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein each feature corresponds to a single, discrete bit of digital information.
