The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art nor material to the presently described or claimed inventions, nor that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
The present invention relates generally to the field of blankets and coverings of existing art and more specifically relates to a blanket reconfigurable into one or more uses.
Many people spend time in outdoor environments. When spending time outdoors, such as when hiking or attending sporting events, users may be uncomfortable due to being cold and wet. In order to achieve comfort, warmth and protection from the elements, users often have to transport and travel with five or more separate items. This can be inconvenient and consumes valuable space in the home. Also, attempting to carry multiple items can be next to impossible when traveling. Therefore, a suitable solution is desired.
U.S. Pat. No. 6,367,083 to Carl J. November relates to a multiple use blanket convertible into sleeping bag and cushion configurations. The described multiple use blanket convertible into sleeping bag and cushion configurations may be converted into a sleeping bag or pouch configuration and into a compact cushion, pillow or storage configuration. In a fully unfolded configuration, the blanket may be used as a blanket, wrap or, when provided with a water-resistant outer layer, as a poncho-like wrap. The blanket has a closure system (e.g., a zipper, hook and loop system, snaps, buttons, a zip lock system, etc.) in a central region of the blanket into which the blanket can be folded or otherwise manipulated, and the closure system closed around the compacted blanket to provide the compact configuration of the blanket. The location of the closure system provides a neat, clean and convenient way to compact the blanket, and an attractive appearance, as well as functionality as a pillow or cushion. Another closure system is provided about the periphery of the blanket which allows the blanket to be folded and configured as a sleeping bag or stadium bag or pouch.
In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known reconfigurable blanket art, the present disclosure provides a novel multi-functional blanket system and method. The general purpose of the present disclosure, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a multi-functional blanket system for providing an all-in-one blanket, poncho, backpack, tote, and seat cushion.
A multi-functional blanket system is disclosed herein. The multi-functional blanket system includes a blanket having a first sheet of material and a second sheet of material. The first sheet of material and the second sheet of material are joined together about their shared perimeter with the first sheet of material forming a first side and the second sheet of material forming a second side of the blanket. The blanket further includes an opening therein and one or more fasteners coupled to the blanket.
In addition, the multi-functional blanket system is provided with at least one strap removably attachable to the blanket via the fasteners and a hood removably attachable to the blanket via the fasteners. The multi-functional blanket system may be configured to be used as a blanket and alternately a poncho when in an unfolded configuration. The multi-functional blanket system may also be configured to be used as a tote, a backpack, and alternately a seat cushion when in one or more folded configurations.
According to another embodiment, a method of using a multi-functional blanket system is also disclosed herein. The method includes a providing a multi-functional blanket system as described above and wearing the blanket as a poncho with the hood attached thereto.
For purposes of summarizing the invention, certain aspects, advantages, and novel features of the invention have been described herein. It is to be understood that not necessarily all such advantages may be achieved in accordance with any one particular embodiment of the invention. Thus, the invention may be embodied or carried out in a manner that achieves or optimizes one advantage or group of advantages as taught herein without necessarily achieving other advantages as may be taught or suggested herein. The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings and detailed description.
The figures which accompany the written portion of this specification illustrate embodiments and methods of use for the present disclosure, a multi-functional blanket system and method, constructed and operative according to the teachings of the present disclosure.
The various embodiments of the present invention will hereinafter be described in conjunction with the appended drawings, wherein like designations denote like elements.
As discussed above, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a reconfigurable blanket or covering and more particularly to a multi-functional blanket system and method as used to improve the multifunctional use of a blanket.
Generally, the present invention provides a multi-functioning system that offers the benefits of a poncho, blanket, tote, backpack, and seat cushion. It benefits users looking to enjoy the outdoors, such as while hiking, picnicking, attending sporting events, tailgating, or visiting the beach. The device enables users to carry one compact item as opposed to five different items, saving space and providing convenience. It allows users to experience the outdoors more fully year-round by providing protection from the elements. The present invention affords comfort, convenience, warmth, storage, protection, and more.
