Multi-game system

Abstract

The present invention comprises a gaming device for allowing a player to play multiple games simultaneously. The gaming device comprises at least one game source, a server in communication with the game source, at least one display device in communication with the server, and at least one input device in communication with the display device. The game source provides at least one game to the player. The server is configured to combine data to create a set of games for display on display device. The player is allowed to specify games to play and place a wager using the input device. After games are completed, game outcomes are displayed on the display device.

Description

FIELD OF INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to gaming devices, and more particularly to gaming devices that allow a player to play multiple games simultaneously.

BACKGROUND

[0004] The game of roulette is well known and is played in most casinos throughout the world. The game is typically played on a physical roulette table. The roulette table comprises a wagering field that allows players to bet on numbers 1 through 36, 0, and 00. The wagering field also allows players to place bets on red, black, odd, or even numbers, numbers between 1 to 18, numbers between 19 to 36, numbers between 1 to 12, 13 to 24, or 25 to 36. The wagering field further allows several other betting opportunities, the prizes for which are adjusted according to the odds of the particular bet.

[0005] Once players have made their bets, an operator starts the game by setting a white ball in motion around a roulette wheel. The roulette wheel comprises a plurality of sections that can capture the ball. Each section is designated with a number as well as a red, black, or green color. The ball eventually looses speed, and falls into one section. The number of the section on which the ball lands is the number outcome of the game and the color of the section on which the ball lands is the color outcome of the game. The player may be awarded a prize if the player placed a bet on the number or color of the outcome.

[0006] Due to the popularity of roulette, gaming operators cannot accommodate all game players at roulette tables, especially during peak casino hours. Thus, game players are not always able to play the game and casino operators lose revenue. During peak operation, conventional roulette tables also cannot accommodate players who are new to the game. Game operators and players do not want the game to be slowed down. Thus, a beginner will have to miss out on learning complicated betting opportunities. Furthermore, game players are not able to play at their own pace on conventional roulette tables. At a certain point in a roulette game, the dealer asks all the players to stop betting. However, there are usually many players who have not fully decided which wagers they will place. This prevents these players from placing additional wagers, which in turn deprives them of an opportunity to play the game and deprives the operator of additional revenue.

[0007] Some players perceive roulette as a slow and boring game because of the time it takes to operate the game. For example, before a new game can be played, players must wait until the dealer collects all loosing wagers and award prizes to the winners. In addition, players have to wait for all game players to place their wagers and players have to wait for the operator to set the ball in motion around the roulette wheel. Because of all the waiting involved for every roulette spin, some players prefer to play games besides roulette that are quicker to play from start to finish. The more games a player can play within a given period of time, the better the odds are for winning. For this reason, game players desire to be able to play multiple roulette games at the same time.

[0008] Additionally, some players dislike the odds for being able to pick a winning number out of 38 possible indicia. Thus, many players desire to have several bets or games going at the same time so that if one game fails to win, then they may win on another game. Alternatively, gaming players desire additional betting opportunities, especially betting opportunities that offer large jackpot prizes, to make the risks they make a little more justifiable.

[0010] U.S. Pat. No. 6,007,066 and its related applications disclose a method of card play in which at least two rows of cards are dealt to a player. U.S. Pat. No. 5,954,335 and its related applications disclose a game of twenty-one in which the player has the opportunity to play his first two cards multiple times. Thus, prior art discloses systems that allow a player to play several games at the same time. However, prior art fails to solve a number of problems and fails to satisfy a number of needs.

[0011] For example, people who long to join a crowded gaming table still could not be accommodated. The present invention accommodates these people by providing these live games on display devices and by allowing people to play the games just as they would normally play them. The present invention further provides an option for the player to obtain gaming lessons.

[0012] Another unmet need is for simultaneous multi-game systems to allow players to make specialty bets based upon the probability of events happening across multiple games. Additionally, an unmet need exists for a simultaneous multi-game system that allows player to initially pick an indicia and wagering amount (hereinafter referred to as “wagering scheme”) and apply same exact wagering scheme throughout multiple games. Finally, an unmet need exists for a simultaneous multi-game system that provides a master betting layout that is familiar to the player and is not evaluated for winning or losing. Such betting layout remains throughout the games and provides guidance to new players to play the game and enables experienced players to remember available wager types or styles.

DESCRIPTION OF CERTAIN EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

[0062] The present invention comprises a gaming device, generally indicated by reference number 20. As shown in FIG. 1, gaming device 20 comprises display devices 22 and 24 (hereinafter referred to as first display 22 and second display 24) and input device 26. Gaming device 20 may also comprise a coin acceptor (not shown) for receiving coins or tokens, a bill acceptor 28, and a coin tray (not shown). Gaming device 20 further comprises game source (31 shown in FIG. 11) adapted to provide at least one game to the player.

[0064] Referring to FIG. 1, in at least one embodiment, gaming device 20 comprises a plurality of display devices, such as first display device 22 and second display device 24. Display devices 22 and 24 serve several functions, including displaying graphics to attract players to play and providing a user interface for allowing players to play gaming device 20. The user interface may include displaying game information, such as a wagering field and outcome information. The present invention is not limited to having a fixed number of display devices. Gaming device 20 may comprise a plurality of display devices or a single integrated display device, such as a personal computer monitor for playing a game using a personal computer.

Display devices 22 and 24 may also be plasma screens, cathode ray tubes, or other display devices known in the art. Display devices of different shapes, sizes, and orientation may also be utilized. Introduction screen 23 comprises messages 40 or graphics 42 that serve to attract players to play gaming device 20. Of course, the types and number of messages and graphics may vary.

The credits may be dispensed in the form of currency (either coins or bills), a voucher that may be redeemed at another location, or added to the player's account that is maintained by the operator. Credit meter 310 may indicate the number of credits held in a virtual bank.

The present invention is not limited to any particular game source or sources. The games may be in close proximity to each other, and to gaming device 20. For example, a number of game sources could be connected of a network such a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), or even over the internet. In certain embodiments, a number of gaming devices 20 may communicate to allow a tournament, or competition, where different players can compete against each other.

[0093] Referring now to FIGS. 11 and 12, one embodiment of the present invention is shown wherein gaming device 20 offers at least one live game for the player to play. The number of live games being offered by gaming device 20 may vary. Gaming device 20 is connected to at least one game source. The term “game source” refers to an origin of a game or games being offered to the player and the devices used to capture the origin and relay the captured game or games to the player. A game source may be a live game, a previously recorded game, or an animated game. The devices used to capture the game and relay the captured game or games to the player may include video cameras, video processors, servers, memory storage, recorders, players, computers, and the like.

1. A gaming system comprising: (A) a plurality of networked roulette game sources, each game source being configured to transmit at least one game, at least one roulette game source comprising a live game source comprising a game being played on at least one physical roulette game, each game having a game outcome; (B) a gaming device comprising: (a) a player input device allowing a player to place a wager on at least one of the games; (b) a player display allowing a plurality of games to be simultaneously presented to the player; (C) a user interface in communication with the gaming device and configured to transmit data to the gaming device; (D) a table management system in communication with the user interface, the table management system storing data received from the user interface; (E) a ball reader proximate the physical game table and transmitting game data to a first video processor; (F) a first video processor in communication with the live game source, the user interface, and the ball reader, the first video processor receiving data from the live game source, the first video processor configured to compress the live game source data and to transmit the compressed live game source data; (G) a video server in communication with the plurality of game sources and configured to combine data from the plurality of game sources into a single data stream; and (H) a second video processor in communication with the video server, receiving the compressed data from the video server, decompressing the compressed data, and transmitting the decompressed data to the player display; wherein the player may place a wager on the at least one game and wherein the player may play the plurality of games at a single time.

2. The gaming system of claim 1 wherein the player input device comprises a touch screen.

3. The gaming system of claim 1 further comprising a progressive jackpot controller, the progressive jackpot controller in communication with the gaming device, the progressive jackpot controller awarding a prize upon the occurrence of a randomly occurring event.

4. The gaming system of claim 3 wherein the prize winning event is dependant on the game outcome of at least two of the plurality of game sources.

5. The gaming system of claim 3 further comprising a machine interface card in communication with the gaming device and the progressive jackpot controller, the machine interface card transmitting progressive wager data to the second video processor.

6. The gaming system of claim 1 further comprising a video recording device, the video recording device recording the live game source and transmitting the recording to the first video processor.

7. The gaming system of claim 1 wherein the video recording device comprises a video camera.

A gaming device comprising: (A) a plurality of networked game sources, each game source being configured to capture and transmit at least one game being played on at least one physical game table; and (B) at least one player interface in communication with the plurality of networked game sources, the player interface comprising a display device and an input device, the player interface being adapted to receive the at least one game from the plurality of networked game sources, display the at least one game to a player, and allow the player to play the at least one game; wherein the player may place a wager on the at least one game and wherein the player may play the plurality of games at a single time.

9. The gaming device of claim 8, wherein each game source comprises at least one video camera, the video camera being configured to capture images of a live game.

10. The gaming device of claim 8, wherein each game source comprises recorded games stored in a server, and the gaming device further comprises at least one video processor, the video processor being configured to provide playback of the recorded games.

11. The gaming device of claim 8, wherein player is allowed to apply one set of wagers to a plurality of games.

The gaming device of claim 8, further comprising: (A) an interface card in communication with the display device, the interface card being configured to detect progressive bet and progressive winning; and (B) a controller in communication with interface card, the controller being configured to credit progressive contributions and determine progressive amount.

13. The gaming device of claim 12, wherein the prize for progressive bet is a progressive jackpot prize.

14. The gaming device of claim 12, wherein the prize for progressive bet is a random jackpot prize.

A method for playing roulette, the method comprising: (A) providing at least one game source, the game source being adapted to provide a plurality of roulette games to a player; (B) providing a roulette wagering field, the roulette wagering field being adapted to present the player available wagering schemes, the roulette wagering field being usable for playing the plurality of roulette games; (C) providing an input device, the input device being adapted to allow the player to enter wager information; (D) allowing the player to select a plurality of roulette games to play; (E) allowing the player to create at least one set of wagers; and (F) allowing the player to play the plurality of roulette games with the set of wagers at a single time.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising allowing the player to apply the at least one set of wagers to the plurality of roulette games.

22. The method of claim 20, further comprising providing gaming lessons to the player.

23. The method of claim 20, further comprising allowing the player to place at least one specialty bet, the specialty bet being based upon probability of events happening across multiple games.

A method for playing multiple games simultaneously, the method comprising: (A) providing at least one game source, the game source being adapted to provide a plurality of games to a player; (B) providing an input device, the input device being adapted to allow the player to enter wager information; (C) allowing the player to select a plurality of games to play; and (D) allowing the player to play the plurality of games at a single time.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the games are from a group consisting of roulette, craps, blackjack, poker, keno, pai gow, baccarat, and bingo.

32. The method of claim 30, wherein the games are table games.

33. A gaming device comprising: (A) a plurality of capturing means for capturing a plurality of games being played on a plurality of physical game tables; (B) at least one transmitting means for transmitting the plurality of games to at least one display means, the display means displaying the plurality of games to a player; and (C) a means for interfacing the plurality of games to be playable at a single time.

34. The gaming device of claim 33, wherein the capturing means comprises a plurality of video cameras, the video cameras being configured to capture images of live games.

35. The gaming device of claim 33, further comprising: (A) a recording means for recording a plurality of games; and (B) a processing means, the processing means being configured to provide playback of recorded games.

36. The gaming device of claim 35, wherein the processing means generates random winning numbers.

37. The gaming device of claim 33, further comprising an input means for allowing a player to place a wager.

38. The gaming device of claim 37 wherein the player is allowed to apply one set of wager to the plurality of games.

39. The gaming device of claim 33, further comprising: (A) an interface card in communication with the display means, the interface card being configured to detect progressive bets and progressive winnings; and (B) a controller in communication with the interface card, the controller being configured to credit progressive contributions and determine a progressive prize amount.

40. The gaming device of claim 39, wherein the prize for a winning progressive bet is a progressive jackpot prize.

41. The gaming device of claim 39, wherein the prize for a winning progressive bet is a random jackpot prize.

42. The gaming device of claim 32, wherein the prize for a winning progressive bet is a pre-determined jackpot prize.

43. The gaming device of claim 33, wherein the transmitting means and the display device are connected using wireless communications.

44. The gaming device of claim 33, wherein the means for interfacing is configured to provide gaming instructions to the player.

45. The gaming device of claim 33, wherein the capturing means captures games from selected from a group consisting of roulette, craps, blackjack, poker, keno, pai gow, baccarat, and bingo.

46. The gaming device of claim 33, wherein the capturing means captures at least one type of table game.
