Claims
- 1. A multi-phase mixture, said multi-phase mixture comprising:
- a carbon dioxide phase and a separate aqueous phase; and
- a water insoluble polymer; and wherein the ratio of said carbon dioxide phase to said aqueous phase is between about 1:99 and about 99:1 by volume.
- 2. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 1, wherein said carbon dioxide is liquid carbon dioxide.
- 3. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 1, wherein said carbon dioxide is gaseous carbon dioxide.
- 4. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 1, wherein said carbon dioxide is supercritical carbon dioxide.
- 5. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 1, wherein said water insoluble polymer is a homopolymer.
- 6. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 1, wherein said water insoluble polymer is a copolymer.
- 7. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 5, wherein said homopolymer is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polyvinylchloride,polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene,polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylfluoride, and polyvinylidenefluoride.
- 8. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 6, wherein said copolymer is selected from the group consisting of tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene,tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene/vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene/vinylidene fluoride, perfluoro(methylvinyl ether)/vinylidene fluoride, perfluoro(methylvinyl ether)/vinylidene fluoride/tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene/vinylidene fluoride, chlorotrifluoroethylene/ethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene/tetra-fluoroethylene/ethylene,tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether), tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(methylvinyl ether), tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole), tetrafluoroethylene/ethylene,tetrafluoroethylene/propylene, tetrafluoroethylene/CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFOCF.sub.2 CF(CF.sub.3)OCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 SO.sub.2 F, tetrafluoroethylene/CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFOCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 SO.sub.2 F, tetrafluoroethylene/hexa-fluoropropylene/perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether), styrene/butadiene, styrene/chloroprene, styrene/acylonitrile, acrylonitrile/butadiene, ethylene/vinyl acetate, chloroprene/methylmethacrylate, and chloroprene/acrylonitrile.
- 9. A multi-phase mixture, said multi-phase mixture comprising:
- a carbon dioxide phase and a separate aqueous phase;
- a water insoluble polymer; and
- a surfactant; and wherein the ratio of said carbon dioxide phase to said aqueous phase is between about 1:99 and about 99:1 by volume.
- 10. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 9, wherein said carbon dioxide is liquid carbon dioxide.
- 11. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 9, wherein said carbon dioxide is gaseous carbon dioxide.
- 12. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 9, wherein said carbon dioxide is supercritical carbon dioxide.
- 13. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 9, wherein said water insoluble polymer is a homopolymer.
- 14. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 9, wherein said water insoluble polymer is a copolymer.
- 15. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 13, wherein said homopolymer is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polyvinylchloride, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene,polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylfluoride, and polyvinylidenefluoride.
- 16. The multi-phase mixture according to claim 14, wherein said copolymer is selected from the group consisting of tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene,tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene/vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene/vinylidene fluoride, perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether)/vinylidene fluoride, perfluoro(methylvinyl ether)/vinylidene fluoride/tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene/vinylidene fluoride, chlorotrifluoroethylene/ethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene/tetra-fluoroethylene/ethylene,tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether), tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(methylvinyl ether), tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole), tetrafluoroethylene/ethylene,tetrafluoroethylene/propylene, tetrafluoroethylene/CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFOCF.sub.2 CF(CF.sub.3)OCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 SO.sub.2 F, tetrafluoroethylene/CF.sub.2 .dbd.CFOCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 SO.sub.2 F, tetrafluoroethylene/hexa-fluoropropylene/perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether), styrene/butadiene, styrene/chloroprene, styrene/acylonitrile, acrylonitrile/butadiene, ethylene/vinyl acetate, chloroprene/methylmethacrylate, and chloroprene/acrylonitrile.
