Claims
- 1. A label comprising:
a) a base label having upper and lower opposed surfaces and first and second opposed ends; b) a base adhesive coating said lower surface of said base label; c) a top panel overlying said upper surface of said base label and joined to said base label adjacent said first end, said top panel having an upper surface; d) a tab having upper and lower opposed surfaces and overlying said upper surface of said base label; e) an adhesive patch interposed between said base label and said tab adjacent said second end, wherein said adhesive patch secures said lower surface of said tab to said upper surface of said base label; f) a laminate cover overlying said top panel and said tab; and g) a laminate adhesive securing said laminate cover to said upper surface of said top panel and releasably joining said laminate cover to said upper surface of said tab.
- 2. The label of claim 1 wherein said tab is formed from said top panel.
- 3. The label of claim 1 including a release varnish coating said upper surface of said tab, wherein said laminate adhesive releasably engages said release varnish.
- 4. The label of claim 1 including a hinge adhesive interposed between said top panel and said base label adjacent said first end, wherein said hinge adhesive connects said top panel and said base label to form a hinge portion.
- 5. The label of claim 4 wherein said top panel and said base label are mutually discrete members.
- 6. The label of claim 1 wherein said base label includes an extended portion extending beyond each of said top panel and said laminate cover.
- 7. The label of claim 1 including a tear line in said top panel adjacent said first end, and wherein:
said tear line defines a marginal strip of the top panel; and said laminate cover is releasably joined to said marginal strip.
- 8. The label of claim 7 including a release varnish coating said marginal strip, wherein said laminate adhesive releasably engages said release varnish.
- 9. The label of claim 1 wherein said top panel and said laminate cover are substantially coextensive.
- 10. A label comprising:
a) a base label having upper and lower opposed surfaces and first and second opposed ends; b) a base adhesive coating said lower surface of said base label; c) a top panel overlying said upper surface of said base label and having an upper surface, wherein said top panel and said base label are mutually discrete members; d) a hinge adhesive interposed between said top panel and said base label adjacent said first end, wherein said hinge adhesive connects said top panel and said base label to form a hinge portion; e) a laminate cover overlying said top panel; and f) a laminate adhesive securing said laminate cover to said upper surface of said top panel and releasably joining said laminate cover to said upper surface of said base label.
- 11. The label of claim 10 including a release varnish patch on said upper surface of said base label, wherein said laminate cover releasably engages said release varnish patch.
- 12. A label comprising:
a) a base label having upper and lower opposed surfaces and first and second opposed ends; b) a base adhesive coating said lower surface of said base label; c) a release liner panel joined to said base panel, said release liner panel having a release coated upper surface; d) a top panel overlying said upper surface of release liner panel, said top panel having an upper surface; e) an intermediate adhesive coating said release coated upper surface of said release liner panel and releasably joining said top panel to said release liner panel; f) a top panel tab having upper and lower opposed surfaces and overlying and connected to said upper surface of said base label; g) a laminate cover overlying said top panel and said top panel tab; and h) a laminate adhesive securing said laminate cover to said upper surface of said top panel and releasably joining said laminate cover to said upper surface of said top panel tab.
- 13. The label of claim 12 including:
a release liner tab interposed between said base label and said top panel tab, said release liner tab having a release coated upper surface; a first tab adhesive securing said release liner tab to said upper surface of said base label; and a second tab adhesive releasably securing said top panel tab to said release coated upper surface of said release liner tab.
- 14. The label of claim 12 wherein said intermediate adhesive is readherable when said top panel is removed from said release liner panel.
- 15. The label of claim 12 wherein said intermediate adhesive is a fugitive adhesive.
- 16. The label of claim 12 including a release varnish coating said upper surface of said top panel tab, wherein said laminate adhesive releasably engages said release varnish.
- 17. A method for forming a label, said method including:
a) providing a release liner and a base web releasably secured to the release liner by a base adhesive coating an inner surface of the base web; b) applying a hinge adhesive to an outer surface of the base web; c) applying a top sheet to the outer surface of the base web such that a portion of the top sheet is secured to the base web by the hinge adhesive; d) applying a self-adhesive laminate web over the base web and the top sheet; and e) cutting through each of the laminate web, the top sheet and the base web to form the label, the label including a laminate cover formed from the laminate web, a top panel formed from the top sheet, and a base label formed from the base web, wherein at least the laminate cover and the top panel are substantially coextensive.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein the top sheet includes a tab portion, said method further including applying a tab adhesive patch to the outer surface of the base web such that the tab adhesive patch engages an inner surface of the tab portion when the top sheet is applied to the base web.
- 19. The method of claim 18 further including the step of applying a release varnish to an outer surface of the tab portion.
- 20. The method of claim 17 including the step of applying a plurality of the top sheets to the base label in seriated and imbricated relation.
- 21. The method of claim 17 including the step of forming a tab cut in the top sheet before applying the top sheet to the base web, wherein the tab cut and the cut formed in said step of cutting through each of the laminate web, the top sheet and the base web to form the label together define a tab that is interposed between the laminate cover and the base label and is separable from the top panel.
- 22. A method for forming a label, said method including:
a) providing a release liner having a base adhesive on an outer surface thereof; b) providing a leaflet assembly including a top panel and a bottom panel joined to the bottom panel along a fold, the leaflet assembly further including a hinge adhesive coating respective inner surfaces of the top panel and the bottom panel adjacent the fold and securing the top and bottom panels to one another; c) applying the leaflet assembly to the release liner such that the bottom panel is releasably secured to the release liner by the base adhesive; d) applying a self-adhesive laminate web over the leaflet assembly and the release liner; and e) cutting through each of the laminate web, the top panel and the bottom panel to form the label, wherein said step of cutting includes severing the fold from each of the top panel and the bottom panel.
- 23. The method of claim 22 including applying a tab adhesive patch to the inner surfaces of the top and bottom panels at a location spaced apart from the hinge adhesive.
- 24. The method of claim 23 including applying a release varnish to an outer surface of the top panel opposite the tab adhesive patch.
- 25. The method of claim 22 including forming a tab cut in the top panel before applying the leaflet assembly to the release liner, wherein the tab cut and the cut formed in said step of cutting through each of the laminate web, the top panel and the bottom panel to form the label together define a tab that is interposed between the laminate cover and the base panel and is separable from the top panel.
- 26. A method for forming a label, said method including:
a) providing a release liner and a base web releasably secured to the release liner by a base adhesive coating an inner surface of the base web; b) providing a top web; c) providing a pattern of active adhesive on at least one of an inner surface of the top web and an outer surface of the base web, the pattern of active adhesive including a hinge adhesive portion; d) providing a self-adhesive laminate web; e) marrying the release liner, the base web, the top web and the laminate web such that the top web is interposed between the base web and the laminate web; and f) cutting through each of the laminate web, the top web and the base web to form the label, the label including a laminate cover formed from the laminate web, a top panel formed from the top web, and a base label formed from the base web, wherein the hinge adhesive portion secures the top panel to the base label.
- 27. The method of claim 26 including forming the pattern of active adhesive by deadening a layer of adhesive on at least one of the inner surface of the top web and the outer surface of the base web.
- 28. The method of claim 26 including applying the hinge adhesive portion to at least one of the inner surface of the top web and the outer surface of the base web.
- 29. The method of claim 26 wherein the pattern of active adhesive includes a tab adhesive patch spaced apart from the hinge adhesive portion.
- 30. The method of claim 26 including applying a release varnish to an outer surface of the top web.
- 31. The method of claim 26 including forming a tab cut in the top web before marrying the release liner, the base web, the top web and the laminate web, wherein the tab cut and the cut formed in said step of cutting through each of the laminate web, the top web and the base web to form the label together define a tab that is interposed between the laminate cover and the base label and is separable from the top panel.
- 32. The method of claim 26 including punching a hole in the top web before marrying the release liner, the base web, the top web and the laminate web.
