Claims
- 1. A straightening and tensioning device for use on a reel pipelaying vessel adapted for laying out at least two operational lines in a body of water comprising:
- a pair of multi-track pipe straightening and tensioning assemblies adapted for positioning in opposed facing directions on either side of an array of siad operational lines, each of said assemblies adapted for being supported for reciprocal movement toward and away from said array and each of said assemblies comprising a carriage base and a plurality of endless chain tracks positioned therearound, each of said chain tracks being interconnected to one another and adapted for moving the array of operational lines at a common velocity and each of said tracks having a multiplicity of operational line support pads mounted thereon for providing moving contact support for at least one operational line;
- a series of adjustable guide rollers mounted within said carriage base to enable the establishment of different curvatures in the facing directions of said chain tracks;
- adjustment means mounted within said carriage base and adapted for enabling independent adjustment of said guide rollers; and
- motive means mounted on said carriage base and adapted for enabling the driving of said plurality of endless chain tracks to exert tension force on said operational lines parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof.
- 2. The straightening and tensioning device of claim 1, wherein said adjustment means comprises jactuator screw assemblies, said screw assemblies adjustable from positions spaced along said carriage base to establish variable positions of said guide rollers in the facing directions with respect to said operational line array.
- 3. The straightening and tensioning device of claim 1, wherein said operational lines support pads mounted on said chain tracks are configured to simultaneously contact at least two operational lines of the same diameter.
- 4. The straightening and tensioning device of claim 1, wherein said operational lines support pads are mounted on said chain tracks in series with one series for each of said tracks, a plurality of said series of support pads configured to simultaneously contact at least two operational lines of the same diameter.
- 5. The straightening and tensioning device of claim 4, wherein each of said series of operational lines support pads are associated with a corresponding series of adjustable guide rollers for enabling the exertion of force through said guide rollers to said series of operational lines support pads in order to maintain the same curvature for said two operational lines of the same diameter.
- 6. The straightening and tensioning device of claim 1, wherein drive sprocket gears are mounted on said carriage base for interfitting with said endless chain tracks, and motive means for driving said sprocket gears to exert tension force on said endless chain tracks when said operational lines support pads are in frictional contact with said operational lines to exert tension force on said operational lines parallel to the longitudinal axes thereof.
