Claims
- 1. An aerator device for aerating the water supply of aquatic organisms, said device comprising:a first centrifugal pump for pumping fluids, said pump comprising; (a) a first impeller having an inlet edge, an outlet edge, and vanes; (b) a second impeller having an inlet edge, an outlet edge, and vanes; (c) a pump casing having a flat bottom portion, at least one pump water inlet, one pump air inlet, and one pump water outlet; wherein said first and second impellers are disposed between said pump water inlet and outlet, wherein said pump air inlet is positioned between said first impeller outlet edge and said second impeller outlet edge, and is in communication with air, and wherein said water inlet and outlet are in communication with water; and wherein said flat bottom portion of said pump casing and a top impeller plate define axial flow direction boundaries of said first and second impellers, the axial flow direction boundaries define a channel through which impeller vanes urge water to facilitate low pressure that creates a venturi to cause suction at the pump air inlet.
- 2. The aerator device, as in claim 1, further includes a fluid tight means of driving said first and second impellers.
- 3. The aerator device, as in claim 1, wherein the fluid tight means for driving said first and second impellers comprises:(a) an electric motor including a drive shaft; (b) a fluid tight motor casing having at least one air inlet and one air outlet; and (c) an air blower having a third impeller for blowing air over the motor driven by said drive shaft and disposed between said air inlet and air outlet, wherein said air inlet and outlet are in communication with air.
- 4. An aerator device as in claim 1, wherein said air inlet is engaged with flexible plastic tubing having an outer diameter of approximately ¼ inch.
- 5. An aerator device as in claim 1, wherein an inner diameter of said air inlet is approximately ⅛ inch.
- 6. An aerator device as in claim 1, wherein said aerator device is provided with suction cup means.
- 7. The aerator device as in claim 1, wherein the capacity of said centrifugal pump is 500 gallons per hour.
- 8. The aerator device as in claim 1, wherein said first impeller has vanes describing a curve.
- 9. The aerator device as in claim 1, wherein said second impeller has vanes that are substantially straight.
- 10. The aerator device as in claim 3, wherein said motor defines radially extended cooling fins.
- 11. The aerator device as in claim 10, wherein said motor casing defines a taper generally surrounding said third impeller and wherein said taper increases diameter in the direction of said air outlet and decreases diameter in the direction of said air inlet.
- 12. The aerator device as in claim 11, wherein a drive shaft extends from said motor into said pump casing, and wherein said first impeller and said second impeller, and said third impeller of said blower are disposed upon said drive shaft.
- 13. An aerator device for aerating the water supply of aquatic organisms, said device comprising:a first pump for pumping fluids at a fluid flow capacity, said first pump comprising: a first impeller having an inlet edge and an outlet edge; a pump casing enclosing said first impeller and having a water inlet and a water outlet; and first fluid tight means for driving said first impeller; a second pump having a fluid flow capacity, said second pump comprising: a second impeller having an inlet edge and an outlet edge; a second pump casing enclosing said second impeller, having a flat bottom portion, and having a water inlet and a water outlet; and second fluid tight means for driving said second impeller; wherein water outlet of said first pump casing is in communication with the water inlet of said second pump casing; wherein said flat bottom portion of said second pump casing and said second impeller define axial flow direction boundaries of a channel including a portion through which flowing water facilitates a low pressure venturi; and an air inlet positioned to introduce air into said second pump casing at said low pressure venturi.
- 14. The aerator device, as in claim 13, wherein said fluid flow capacity of the second pump is greater than the fluid flow capacity of said first pump.
