Claims
- 1. A communications device comprising:
an equalizer; and a trellis decoder, the equalized adapted to estimate inputs to the trellis decoder based at least on a structure of the trellis.
- 2. The device of claim 1, wherein the equalizer is a multi-tap equalizer.
- 3. The device of claim 1, wherein the equalizer is a feedback equalizer.
- 4. The device of claim 1, wherein the equalizer is a decision feedback equalizer.
- 5. The device of claim 1, wherein the communications device is in a multicarrier environment.
- 6. The device of claim 1, wherein the closest constellation point to a received point in a specific coset is used as a feedback term.
- 7. The device of claim 6, wherein the specific coset is based on the branch labels of the trellis.
- 8. The device of claim 1, further comprising a Fast Fourier Transform module.
- 9. The device of claim 1, further comprising a time domain equalizer.
- 10. A method of determining feedback for a frequency domain equalizer comprising:
using more than one feedback value to create more than one received point for each of a plurality of tones, wherein a structure of a trellis is used to determine a feedback term; and choosing a coset based on a branch label of the trellis.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the trellis structure remains static.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein a branch metric computation is varied.
- 13. The method of claim 10, wherein equalizer operates in a multicarrier modulation environment.
- 14. A method for frequency domain equalization comprising using a feedback equalizer to estimate input to a trellis decoder based at least on a structure of the trellis.
- 15. An information storage media comprising information that uses a feedback equalizer to estimate input to a trellis decoder based at least on a structure of the trellis.
- 16. A frequency domain equalizer comprising means for using a feedback equalizer to estimate input to a trellis decoder based at least on a structure of the trellis.
- 17. A method of determining a branch metric comprising:
determining the branch metric in accordance with BMm′,mn=min{<{circumflex over (D)}∈Cm′m1,1,R2n−1>+<{circumflex over (D)}∈Cm′,m1,2,R2n>,<{circumflex over (D)}∈Cm′,m2,1,R2n−1>+<{circumflex over (D)}∈Cm′,m2,2,R2n>}where BM is the branch metric from state m′ to state m for step n of a trellis, {circumflex over (D)}∈Cm′,mi,j denotes a closest constellation point in the jth coset on the ith parallel branch from state m′ to state m, and <X,Y> represents a squared Euclidean distance between points X and Y.
