Claims
- 1. A record carrier with at least two co-extending and substantially parallel information layers, each layer including an area formatted for user information and at least one of said layers including control information including a table of contents with global information for determining the layer in which user information to be read is stored and indicating the number of information layers.
- 2. The record carrier as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tracks of the user information in one layer is sequentially ordered in a direction opposite to the sequential order of the tracks of the user information in another layer.
- 3. The record carrier of claim 1 in which the control information includes in each layer, a respective layer table of contents formatted for containing information for determining the address in the respective layer of user information to be read.
- 4. A method of reading a disc-shaped record carrier having a plurality of information layers, at least one of said layers having a global control area containing control information relating to scanning information of other layers; said method comprising:scanning the global control area of the on layer to obtain therefrom control information including information indicating the total number of information layers and the manner in which user information is stored therein; and controlling a lens to remain in focus during scanning of a track of another information layer which is to be read, such control being effected by a servo-system based on the control information obtained from the global control area and relating to scanning of the other information layers.
