Claims
- 1. An information recording medium comprising a disk and containing multiple types of information related to each other, wherein
- a management area is formed in an area of the disk and a data area is formed in another area of the disk,
- said management area contains information representing a data arrangement of said data area,
- a plurality of data units are recorded in said data area,
- each data unit contains a group consisting of a data unit sub-code information, a video information, at least two pieces of sub-picture information to be added or assigned to the video information, and at least two pieces of audio information, each piece of audio information being related to the video information arranged in a direction of reading from the disk,
- said data unit sub-code information within each particular data unit contains attributes and control information items corresponding to that particular data unit,
- at least one of said management area and said data area contains reproducible first and second user selective menu information items which include first and second user selective menus which are stored in said information recording medium in a still picture format, and
- said second user selective menu information item is reproducible in accordance with a selection of said first user selective menu information item.
- 2. The medium of claim 1, wherein said second user selective menu information item includes at least one of an audio information piece and a sub-picture information piece, and
- at least one of said audio and sub-picture information pieces is reproducible in accordance with a selection of the second user selective menu information item.
- 3. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management area includes predetermined content codes representing respective contents of the pieces of said audio and sub-picture information.
- 4. The medium of claim 1, wherein each pieces of said audio information comprises a plurality of frames, each said frame being formed of consecutive pairs of a header and an associated set of data, and
- wherein each said header contains time information on the associated set of data.
- 5. The medium of claim 4, wherein in the pieces of audio information a period of silence is recorded in that a header representing the period of silence is immediately followed by the header of the next pair and no set of data is recorded for silence.
- 6. The medium of claim 1, wherein up to eight pieces of audio information are provided in each said data unit, and each piece thereof contains a different language.
- 7. The medium of claim 1, wherein each said video information, each piece of said sub-picture information related to said video information, and each piece of said audio information related to said video information of one group correspond to a same period of time of recording or reproducing.
- 8. The medium of claim 1, wherein the video information of each said data unit is formed of a plurality of consecutive frames.
- 9. A reproduction apparatus for reproducing information from an information recording medium comprising a disk containing multiple types of information related to each other, wherein a management area is formed in an area of the disk and a data area is formed in another area of the disk, said management area contains Information representing a data arrangement of said data area, a plurality of data units are recorded in said data area, each data unit contains a group consisting of a data unit sub-code information, a video information, at least two pieces of sub-picture information to be added or assigned to the video information, and at least two pieces of audio information each related to the video information arranged in a direction of reading from the disk, said data unit sub-code information of each data unit contains attributes of that respective data unit and control information items, and said second user selective menu information item is reproducible in accordance with a selection of said first user selective menu information item, the reproduction apparatus comprising:
- pickup means for reading the information from said disk to provide an output signal;
- demodulation means for demodulating the output signal from said pickup means to provide audio data information, sub-picture data information, and video data information;
- means for storing the audio and sub-picture data information from said demodulation means;
- sub-picture information decoding means for decoding the sub-picture information read from said disk;
- at least one audio information decoding means for decoding the audio information read from said disk;
- data control means for selecting said sub-picture data information and at least one audio data information based on select information, said select information representing a choice of the audio and sub-picture information contained in said disk, and for supplying the selected sub-picture and audio data information respectively to said sub-picture information decoding means and said audio information decoding means;
- video information decoding means for decoding the video data information from said demodulation means to generate a video signal;
- wherein said sub-picture information decoding means decodes, in accordance with the selected sub-picture data information, one piece of the sub-picture data information from said demodulation means so as to generate a sub-picture signal, and
- wherein said at least one audio information decoding means decodes, in accordance with the selected audio data information, one piece of the audio data information from said demodulation means so as to generate an audio signal;
- means for entering said select information representing a user's choice of audio and sub-picture information contained in said disk: and
- means for storing frequency information on how frequently a user's choice has been entered as said select information:
- wherein said data control means automatically selects said sub-picture data information and at least one audio data information respectively supplied to said sub-picture information decoding means and at least one audio information decoding means, in accordance with the frequency information stored in said storing means, when the frequency information has reached a predetermined value.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, further comprising:
- means for combining the video signal from said video information decoding means with the sub-picture signal from said sub-picture information decoding means so as to output a combined signal.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein:
- said data control means further includes menu screen display means for displaying the first and second user selective menu information items by generating a video signal to be supplied to a video monitor; and
- said data control means selects said second user selective menu information item as well as said sub-picture data information and at least one audio data information respectively supplied to said sub-picture information decoding means and at least one audio information decoding means, in accordance with said select information when said select information is entered.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein at least two audio information decoding means are provided, each of these decoding means being adapted to decode and invert a piece of audio information so that the audio information decoded by one audio information decoding means can be canceled when synthesized or combined with an inverted version of said audio information which is provided by another of said audio information decoding means.
- 13. An information recording medium comprising a disk and containing multiple types of information related to each other, wherein
- a management area is formed in an area of the disk and a data area is formed in another area of the disk;
- said management area contains control information representing the data arrangement of said data area;
- a plurality of data units are recorded in said data area, each data unit contains a group consisting of
- a data unit sub-code information which contains attributes of that respective data unit and control information on that data unit,
- a video information arranged in the reading direction,
- at least two pieces of sub-picture information to be added to said video information and each related to said video information, and
- at least two pieces of audio information each related to said video information,
- said management area or said data area contains reproducible first and second user selective menu information items,
- said second user selective menu information item is reproducible depending on a selection of the first user selective menu information item,
- said second user selective menu information item comprising selection information on pieces of said audio and/or sub-picture information which are reproducible depending on a selection of the second user selective menu information item,
- and at least one of said first and second user selective menu information items includes first and second user selective menus which are stored in said information recording medium in a still picture format.
- 14. A reproduction apparatus for reproducing information from an information recording medium comprising a disk containing multiple types of information related to each other, wherein a management area is formed in an area of the disk and a data area is formed in another area of the disk; said management area contains control information representing the data arrangement of said data area; a plurality of data units are recorded in said data area, each data unit contains a group consisting of a data unit sub-code information which contains attributes of that respective data unit and control information on that data unit, a video information arranged in the reading direction, at least two pieces of sub-picture information to be added to said video information and each related to said video information, and at least two pieces of audio information each related to said video information, said management area or said data area contains reproducible first and second user selective menu information items, said second user selective menu information item is reproducible depending on a selection of the first user selective menu information item, said second user selective menu information item comprising selection information on pieces of said audio and/or sub-picture information which are reproducible depending on a selection of the second user selective menu information item, and at least one of said first and second user selective menu information items includes first and second user selective menus which are stored in said information recording medium in a still picture format, the reproduction apparatus comprising:
- pickup means for reading the information from said disk to provide an output signal;
- demodulation means for demodulating the output signal from said pickup means to output audio data information, sub-picture data information, and video data information;
- management information storage means for storing the audio and sub-picture data information output from said demodulation means;
- data control means for selecting the sub-picture data information and at least one audio data information, which are output from said demodulation means, on the basis of a select information representing a choice of audio and sub-picture information contained in said disk, and for supplying the selected sub-picture and audio data information;
- video information decoding means for decoding the video data information output from said demodulation means to provide a video signal;
- sub-picture information decoding means for decoding, in accordance with the selected sub-picture data information supplied from said data control means, one piece of the sub-picture information output from said demodulation means to provide a sub-picture signal;
- at least one audio information decoding means each for decoding, in accordance with the selected audio data information supplied from said data control means, one piece of audio information output from said demodulation means to provide an audio signal, and
- means for combining the video signal from said video information decoding means with the sub-picture signal from said sub-picture information decoding means to generate a resulting video signal to be supplied to a video monitor,
- wherein said data control means comprises:
- menu screen display means for displaying the first and second user selective menu information items by generating a video signal to be supplied to the video monitor; and
- input means for setting select information with respect to the first and second user selective menu information items, and
- wherein said data control means, in accordance with said select information set by said input means selects:
- said second user selective menu information item,
- said sub-picture data information supplied to said sub-picture information decoding means, and
- at least one said audio data information supplied to at least one said audio information decoding means.
