- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
processing the low band and the high band with a second function.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
combining the low band and the high band after processing the low band with the first software function, thereby resulting in a processed signal, wherein combining comprises upsampling and adding.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:
transmitting the processed signal over a communication medium.
- 5. The method of claim 3, further comprising:
outputting the processed signal to an output device.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
digitizing the signal using a sampling rate corresponding to the first bandwidth.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the signal comprises audio signals, and wherein the first bandwidth comprises 0-8 KHz and wherein the fourth bandwidth comprises 0-4 KHz.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
combining the low band signal and the high band signal, thereby resulting in a processed signal; packetizing the processed signal.
- 9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
combining the low band signal and the high band signal, thereby resulting in a processed signal; and outputting the processed signal to a speaker.
- 10. A system for processing a signal, said system comprising:
an interface for receiving digitized samples of the signal, wherein the digitized samples representing frequency components of the signal in a first bandwidth; a band splitter for splitting the digital samples of the signal into a low band representing frequency components of the signal in a second bandwidth and a high band representing frequency components of the signal in a third bandwidth; and a first function for processing the low band wherein the first function is designed for a fourth bandwidth, and wherein the second bandwidth is a subset of the fourth bandwidth.
- 11. The system of claim 10, further comprising:
a second function for processing the low band and the high band.
- 12. The system of claim 10, further comprising:
a combiner for combining the low band and the high band after processing the low band with the first function, thereby resulting in a processed signal.
- 13. The system of claim 12, further comprising:
an encoder for packetizing the processed signal.

- 15. The system of claim 14, further comprising:
a combiner for combining the low band signal and the high band signal, thereby resulting in a processed signal; and an encoder for packetizing the processed signal.
- 16. The system of claim 14, further comprising:
a combiner for combining the low band signal and the high band signal, thereby resulting in a processed signal; and a speaker for outputting the processed signal.
- 17. The system of claim 10, wherein the interface comprises a virtual hausware device.
- 18. The system of claim 10, wherein the interface comprises a packet voice exchange.
- 19. An article of manufacture comprising a computer readable medium storing a plurality of executable instructions for:
receiving digitized samples of the signal, wherein the digitized samples representing frequency components of the signal in a first bandwidth; splitting the digital samples of the signal into a low band representing frequency components of the signal in a second bandwidth and a high band representing frequency components of the signal in a third bandwidth; and processing the low band with a first function, wherein the function is designed for a fourth bandwidth, and wherein the second bandwidth is a subset of the fourth bandwidth.
- 20. The article of manufacture of claim 19, wherein the plurality of executable instructions further comprise instructions for:
processing the low band and the high band with a second function.
- 21. The article of manufacture of claim 19, wherein the plurality of executable instructions further comprise instructions for:
combining the low band and the high band after processing the low band with the first function, thereby resulting in a processed signal, wherein combining comprises upsampling and adding.
