Claims
- 1. An ablation apparatus, comprising:
- an introducer including an introducer lumen, a proximal portion and a distal portion;
- at least one electrode at least partially positionable in the introducer lumen, wherein the at least one electrode is configured to be advanced from the introducer distal portion in a deployed state into a selected tissue site to define a volumetric ablation volume;
- a fluid delivery member positioned on at least a portion of an exterior of the at least one electrode, wherein the fluid delivery member is configured to be coupled to a fluid medium source; and
- a cable coupled to the at least one electrode.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein a distal portion of the introducer is an electrode.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one electrode is an RF electrode.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the fluid delivery member is expandable.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the fluid delivery member is expanded when a fluid is delivered from the fluid medium source to the fluid delivery member.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 2, further comprising:
- a sheath at least partially positioned around the fluid delivery member.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the sheath is slideable along an exterior of the fluid delivery member.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the fluid delivery member is in a non-expanded state when positioned in the introducer lumen.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the fluid delivery member is expanded to an expanded state when a fluid is delivered to the fluid delivery member.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 2, further comprising:
- an expandable member at least partially positioned between an exterior of the electrode and the fluid delivery member, wherein the expandable member is configured to receive an expansion medium and expand the fluid delivery member.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the expandable member is a balloon.
- 12. The apparatus of 11, further comprising:
- an expansion medium device configured to deliver an expansion medium to the expandable member.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one electrode has at least one radius of curvature when advanced from an introducer distal portion.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an electrode advancement and retraction device configured to advance and retract the electrodes in and out of the distal portion of the introducer.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an insulation sleeve positioned around at least a portion of an exterior surface of an electrode.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an insulation sleeve positioned around at least a portion of the introducer.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the fluid delivery member is at least partially made of a permeable membrane.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the fluid delivery member delivers a electrolytic solution to a selected tissue site.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the electrolytic solution is saline.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- a handpiece coupled to the proximal portion of the introducer.
- 21. An ablation apparatus, comprising:
- an introducer including an introducer lumen, a proximal portion and a distal portion;
- two or more electrodes at least partially positionable in the introducer lumen, wherein each electrode is configured to be advanced from the introducer distal portion in a deployed state into a selected tissue site to define a volumetric ablation volume;
- a fluid delivery member positioned on at least a portion of an exterior of one of the electrodes, wherein the fluid delivery member is configured to be coupled to a fluid medium source; and
- a cable coupled to the electrodes.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein a distal portion of the introducer is an electrode.
- 23. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the electrodes are RF electrodes.
- 24. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the fluid delivery member is expandable.
- 25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the fluid delivery member is expanded when a fluid is delivered from the fluid medium source to the fluid delivery member.
- 26. The apparatus of claim 21, further comprising:
- a sheath at least partially positioned around the fluid delivery member.
- 27. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein the sheath is slideable along an exterior of the fluid delivery member.
- 28. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the fluid delivery member is in a non-expanded state when positioned in the introducer lumen.
- 29. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein the fluid delivery member is expanded to an expanded state when a fluid is delivered to the fluid delivery member.
- 30. The apparatus of claim 21, further comprising:
- an expandable member at least partially positioned between an exterior of the electrode and the fluid delivery member, wherein the expandable member is configured to receive an expansion medium and expand the fluid delivery member.
- 31. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the expandable member is a balloon.
- 32. The apparatus of 30, further comprising:
- an expansion medium device configured to deliver an expansion medium to the expandable member.
- 33. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein each electrode has at least one radius of curvature when advanced from introducer distal portion.
- 34. The apparatus of claim 21, further comprising:
- an electrode advancement and retraction device configured to advance and retract the electrodes in and out of the distal portion of the introducer.
- 35. The apparatus of claim 21, further comprising:
- an insulation sleeve positioned around at least a portion of an exterior surface of an electrode.
- 36. The apparatus of claim 14, further comprising:
- an insulation sleeve positioned around at least a portion of the introducer.
- 37. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the fluid delivery member is at least partially made of a permeable membrane.
- 38. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the fluid delivery member delivers a electrolytic solution to a selected tissue site.
- 39. The apparatus of claim 38, wherein the electrolyte solution is saline.
- 40. The apparatus of claim 21, further comprising:
- a handpiece coupled to the proximal portion of the introducer.
