Claims
- 1. An apparatus for sending a plurality of switching signals to a switching device for sequentially switching the position of an injection gate of a injection molding machine for molding a work piece in a mold during a molding cycle from a first closed position, to a first open position, to second closed position, to a second open position and then to a third closed position, the switching signals being indicative of one of the open position and the closed position, the apparatus to be hand carried by a machine operator, the apparatus comprising:
a body, said body being hand carriable by a machine operator; a first input conduit operably associated with said body for receiving a first switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate; a second input conduit operably associated with said body for receiving a second switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate; an output conduit simultaneously operably connected to said first input conduit and to said second input conduit for transmitting one of the first switching signal and the second switching signal to the switching device; and a first inhibitor operably associated with said second input conduit for inhibiting the first switching signal from being transmitted through the second input conduit; and a second inhibitor operably associated with said first input conduit for inhibiting the second switching signal from being transmitted through the first input conduit.
- 2. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein said body comprises a container defining a cavity therein, at least one of said first inhibitor and said second inhibitor fitted into said cavity.
- 3. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the switching signal are indicative of the open position.
- 4. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1:wherein the switch signals are a direct current electrical signal; and wherein at least one of said first inhibitor and said second inhibitor comprises a diode.
- 5. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of said first input conduit and said second input conduit comprises an electrical connector for connecting said input conduit to a switching signal producing device.
- 6. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a device operably connected to said first input conduit and said second input conduit for generating the switching signals, the device including a power supply for generating the switching signals, a first timer operably connected to the power supply and to the first input conduit for delaying the transmission of the first switching signal to said first input conduit and a second timer operably connected to the power supply and to the second input conduit for delaying the transmission of the second switching signals to said second input conduit.
- 7. An apparatus, as claimed in claim 1:wherein the switching signals are indicative of the open position; wherein the first switching signal is utilized to switching the position of the injection gate from the first closed position to the first open position; and wherein the second switching signal is utilized to switching the position of the injection gate from the second closed position to the second open position, whereby the injection gate may be utilized to provide material for molding the workpiece in two separate spaced apart time periods.
- 8. A method for sending a series of switching signals to a switching device for sequentially switching the position of an injection gate of a injection molding machine for molding a work piece in a mold during a molding cycle from a first closed position, to a first open position, to second closed position, to a second open position and then to a third closed position, the switching signals being indicative of the open position, the apparatus to be hand carried by a machine operator, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a hand carriable portable control unit for sending a series of switching signals to a switching device for sequentially switching the position of an injection gate; receiving at a first input conduit of the portable control unit a first switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the first closed position to the first open position; inhibiting the transmission of the first switching signal to a second input conduit of the portable control unit; transmitting the first switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from the first closed position to the first open position; detecting the absence of the first switching signal, the absence being indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the first open position to the second closed position; transmitting the absence of first switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from first open position to the second closed position; receiving at the second input conduit of the portable control unit a second switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the second closed position to the second open position; inhibiting the transmission of the second switching signal to the first input conduit of the portable control unit; transmitting the second switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from the second closed position to the second open position; detecting the absence of the second switching signal, the absence being indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the second open position to the third closed position; transmitting the absence of the second switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; and switching the position of the injection gate from second open position to the third closed position.
- 9. The method according to claim 8, wherein the providing step comprises providing a container defining a cavity therein.
- 10. The method according to claim 8:
wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises receiving a direct current electrical signal; and wherein at least one of the inhibiting the first signal switching step and the inhibiting the second switching signal step comprises inhibiting with a diode.
- 11. The method according to claim 8, wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises receiving a direct current electrical signal.
- 12. The method according to claim 8, wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises connecting the input conduit to a switching signal producing device.
- 13. The method according to claim 8, further comprising the step of operably connecting a device to the first input conduit and the second input conduit for generating the switching signals, the device including a power supply for generating the switching signals, a first timer operably connected to the power supply and to the first input conduit for delaying the transmission of the first switching signal to said first input conduit and a second timer operably connected to the power supply and to the second input conduit for delaying the transmission of the second switching signals to said second input conduit.
- 14. The method according to claim 8, wherein at least one of the switching the position of the injection gate from first open position to the second closed position step and the switching the position of the injection gate from second open position to the third closed position step comprises utilizing a fluid to switch the position of the gate.
- 15. An article made by a injection molding process including sending a series of switching signals to a switching device for sequentially switching the position of an injection gate of a injection molding machine for molding a work piece in a mold during a molding cycle from a first closed position, to a first open position, to second closed position, to a second open position and then to a third closed position, the switching signals being indicative of the open position, the apparatus to be hand carried by a machine operator, the process comprising the steps of:
providing a hand carriable portable control unit for sending a series of switching signals to a switching device for sequentially switching the position of an injection gate; receiving at a first input conduit of the portable control unit a first switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the first closed position to the first open position; inhibiting the transmission of the first switching signal to a second input conduit of the portable control unit; transmitting the first switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from the first closed position to the first open position; detecting the absence of the first switching signal, the absence being indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the first open position to the second closed position; transmitting the absence of first switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from first open position to the second closed position; receiving at the second input conduit of the portable control unit a second switching signal indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the second closed position to the second open position; inhibiting the transmission of the second switching signal to the first input conduit of the portable control unit; transmitting the second switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; switching the position of the injection gate from the second closed position to the second open position; detecting the absence of the second switching signal, the absence being indicative of a desire to switch the position of the injection gate from the second open position to the third closed position; transmitting the absence of the second switching signal through the portable control unit to the injection gate; and switching the position of the injection gate from second open position to the third closed position.
- 16. The article as claimed in claim 15, wherein the providing step comprises providing a container defining a cavity therein.
- 17. The article as claimed in claim 15:
wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises receiving a direct current electrical signal; and wherein at least one of the inhibiting the first signal switching step and the inhibiting the second switching signal step comprises inhibiting with a diode.
- 18. The article as claimed in claim 15, wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises receiving a direct current electrical signal.
- 19. The article as claimed in claim 15, wherein at least one of the receiving a first switching signal step and the receiving a second switching signal step comprises connecting the input conduit to a switching signal producing device.
- 20. The article as claimed in claim 15, further comprising the step of operably connecting a device to the first input conduit and the second input conduit for generating the switching signals, the device including a power supply for generating the switching signals, a first timer operably connected to the power supply and to the first input conduit for delaying the transmission of the first switching signal to said first input conduit and a second timer operably connected to the power supply and to the second input conduit for delaying the transmission of the second switching signals to said second input conduit.
- 21. The article as claimed in claim 15, wherein at least one of the switching the position of the injection gate from first open position to the second closed position step and the switching the position of the injection gate from second open position to the third closed position step comprises utilizing fluid to switch the position of the gate.
