Claims
- 1. Apparatus for controlling flow of glass through a discharge orifice, which comprisesa module including: a first frame for disposition in fixed position adjacent to the orifice, a second frame movably mounted on said first frame, with said first frame including means for guiding motion of said second frame in a vertical direction, a servo motor mounted on said first frame, and a lead screw extending from said servo-motor and coupled by a nut to said second frame; a cabinet surrounding and enclosing said module, said cabinet having a vertical wall for disposition adjacent to said orifice and a vertically elongated opening in said wall; a heat shield carried by said second frame of said module interiorly adjacent to said vertical wall covering said vertically elongated opening to reduce entry of heat into said cabinet through said opening; a plunger arm cantilevered from said second frame for disposition over the orifice; and means on a free end of said plunger arm for suspending a plunger from said arm.
- 2. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said first frame has spaced slide shafts, and wherein said second frame has slide bearings slidably mounting said second frame on said slide shafts.
- 3. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said plunger arm is cantilevered from said second frame by means for permitting pivotal motion of said plunger arm vertically away from the orifice.
- 4. The apparatus set forth in claim 3 further comprising an adjustable stop for adjusting horizontal position of said plunger arm.
- 5. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said means for suspending said plunger comprises a quick-release lock.
- 6. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 wherein said module includes springs carried by said second frame and resiliently urging said heat shield into internal sliding engagement with said vertical wall covering said elongated opening.
- 7. The apparatus set forth in claim 1 comprising a plurality of said modules mounted within said cabinet, a corresponding plurality of said plunger arms for independently moving corresponding plungers, a plurality of said vertically elongated openings in said vertical wall of said cabinet, and a heat shield carried by each said module interiorly adjacent to said vertical wall and covering the associated opening.
- 8. The apparatus set forth in claim 7 wherein said modules in said cabinet are in horizontal side-by-side relationship, and wherein at least some of said plunger arms are non-linear, and wherein plungers suspended from said arms are disposed in a single plane.
