Claims
- 1. A charge pump that periodically charges a charge storage component from a supply voltage and that periodically discharges the charge storage component to provide a first current to a first load, the charge pump providing a second current to a second load as the charge storage component is charged.
- 2. The charge pump of claim 1, wherein a first voltage provided to the first load is different from a second voltage provided to the second load.
- 3. The charge pump of claim 1, wherein a first voltage is provided to the first load and a second voltage is provided to the second load, and wherein at least one of the first voltage and the second voltage is regulated at a voltage different than the supply voltage.
- 4. The charge pump of claim 1, wherein a first voltage is provided to the first load and a second voltage is provided to the second load, and wherein the first voltage and the second voltage are regulated independently of the supply voltage.
- 5. The charge pump of claim 1, wherein the first current provided to the first load and the second current provided to the second load are substantially equal.
- 6. The charge pump of claim 1, wherein the charge pump regulates at least one of the first current and the second current.
- 7. The charge pump of claim 6, wherein the first load comprises at least one light emitting diode and wherein the second load comprises at least one light emitting diode.
- 8. A multiple output regulating charge pump that receives a supply voltage and that generates a first output voltage and a second output voltage, the charge pump comprising:
a charge storage component; a plurality of switches that selectively interconnect the charge storage component and the supply voltage and that selectively interconnect the charge storage component to an output terminal that provides one of the first output voltage and the second output voltage; a switch timing control circuit that selectively controls the conductivities of the plurality of switches; a reference voltage; a feedback voltage responsive to one of said first output voltage and said second output voltage; and a feedback circuit responsive to a difference between the reference voltage and the feedback voltage to control a charging current to the charge storage component when the charge storage component is connected to the supply voltage.
- 9. The charge pump of claim 8, wherein the first output voltage is provided to a first load and the second output voltage is provided to a second load.
- 10. The charge pump of claim 9, wherein the feedback voltage is proportional to the first output voltage provided to the first load, thereby regulating the first output voltage.
- 11. The charge pump of claim 9, wherein the feedback voltage is a sense voltage across a sense resistor connected in series with the first load, thereby regulating output current provided to the first load.
- 12. The charge pump of claim 8, wherein the switch timing control circuit controls the conductivities of the plurality of switches to alternately charge and discharge the charge storage component.
- 13. The charge pump of claim 12, wherein the switches connect the charge storage component in series with the supply voltage and a second load to charge the charge storage component, and wherein the switches connect the charge storage component in series with the supply voltage and a first load to discharge the charge storage component.
- 14. The charge pump of claim 13, wherein a first current is provided to the first load as the charge storage component is discharged and a second current is provided to the second load as the charge storage component is charged.
- 15. The charge pump of claim 8, wherein the feedback circuit comprises a variable current source and an error amplifier.
- 16. The charge pump of claim 8, wherein the reference voltage is a fixed voltage.
- 17. The charge pump of claim 8, wherein the reference voltage is selectable among a plurality of reference voltage values.
- 18. A charge pump regulator configured to drive at least two independent loads, the charge pump regulator including a charge storage device that is charged by a charging current and that is discharged by a discharging current, wherein the discharging current drives a first load and the charging current drives a second load.
