- 6. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein each outer skin section is formed from a sheet material capable of being coiled into rolls.
- 7. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein the filler means comprises rigid rectangular panels of insulation.
- 8. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein each outer skin section and each grid section is rectangular in configuration.
- 9. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein the roof deck includes a peripheral edge and wherein edge flashing means is disposed at said peripheral edge.
- 10. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein said sealant means includes a strip of elastic sealant.
- 11. The roofing system as defined in claim 10 further including a layer of sealant material applied above the securing means to form a secondary, watertight seal.
- 12. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein the securing means includes a plurality of mechanical fasteners spaced at intervals equal to or less than one and one half inch.
- 13. The roofing system as defined in claim 1 wherein each outer skin section includes widthwise corrugations, and
- a continuous water drainage gradient formed on a slightly inclined, flat roof load bearing deck with the corrugations of the outer skin sections being oriented parallel to the downhill, roof gradient.
- 14. A multiple-panel metal roofing system for installation on a continuous roof deck having a length and a width, said roof deck forming an integral part of a single building structure, said system comprising:
- (a) a plurality of support members aligned to create a supporting frame structure formed as a plurality of grid sections each having a plurality of sides defining the perimeter of each grid section, each support member having a base rigidly secured to the roof deck and an upper surface spaced apart from the roof deck by a defined height;
- (b) filler means covering the roof deck within each grid section and extending upward from the roof deck to a height not exceeding the height of the support members;
- (c) a plurality of substantially planar outer skin sections each having an edge surface overlying the upper surface of the support members and each being freely disposed over the filler means without bonding thereto within a single grid section, the intersection of the upper surface of the support members with the skin section edge surfaces and the edge surfaces of adjacent skin sections defining an elevated overlap zone;
- (d) sealant means disposed within the elevated overlap zone of each grid section between the skin section and the adjacent skin sections; and
- (e) securing means penetrating within the elevated overlap zone of each grid section through the skin section, the adjacent skin sections and the sealant means at spaced apart intervals for immovably securing the skin section and the adjacent skin sections to the underlying support members and for forming a compressed watertight seal along the entire perimeter of each grid section;
- whereby the area of each outer skin section lying inside the perimeter of each grid section is free to expand or contract in response to temperature changes without causing relative movement of the watertight seal formed along the perimeter of each grid section.
- 15. The roofing system of claim 14 wherein the outer skin sections include laterally extending corrugations.
- 16. The roofing system of claim 15 wherein said filler means includes insulating filler means.
- 17. The roofing system of claim 16 wherein said insulating filler means includes rigid rectangular blocks of insulation having a height substantially equal to the height of the support members.
