DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to FIG. 1, a multipurpose storage bag in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention is shown comprising a bag body 1, a strap 2.

The bag body 1 is made of a soft fabric sheet material, having a rectangular top-open storage chamber defined therein and surrounded by four upright panels thereof. The upright panels of the bag body 1 include two opposing first upright panels 101 and two opposing second upright panels 102. Each first upright panel 101 is stiffened by two hard boards therein so that a vertical folding line 14 is formed on the middle between the two hard boards. Each second upright panel 102 is stiffened by one single hard board therein. One of the second upright panels 102 has a through hole 11 near the top open side of the bag body 1. The other second upright panel 102 has a connection member 12 located on the inner wall thereof near the top open side of the bag body 1. The connection member 12 can be a fabric loop stitched to the inner wall of the selected second upright panel 102. Further, a first ring member 13 is fastened to the connection member 12. Further, magnetic members 15 are fixedly mounted in the first upright panels 101 near the top open side of the bag body 1 in reversed magnetic directions such that two multipurpose storage bags that are put side by side can be secured together by the respective magnetic members 15 by means of magnetic attraction force.

The strap 2 is a flexible belt inserted with its one end through the through hole 11 at one second upright panel 102 of the bag body 1 and fixedly mounted with a swivel hook 21 for connection to the first ring member 13. The other end of the strap 2 that extends out of the bag body 1 is provided with a second ring member 22. The swivel hook 21 can be fastened to the first ring member 13 to secure the respective end of the strap 2 to one second upright panel 102 of the bag body 1. The swivel hook 21 can be unfastened from the first ring member 13 for allowing removal of the strap 2 from the bag body 1.

Referring to FIGS. 2˜4, the multipurpose storage bag can be arranged for use as a back bag. In this case, the user can pull the strap 2 to move the distal second upright panel 102 toward the proximal second upright panel 102 (see FIG. 2), causing the two first upright panels 101 to be folded up inwardly along the vertical folding lines 14 (see FIG. 3). At this time, the upper part of the multipurpose storage bag around the top open side thereof is flattened. Thus, the multipurpose storage bag is arranged into the shape of a back bag (see FIG. 4) for carrying on the user's back (see FIG. 5).

Further, after connection of the swivel hook 21 to the first ring member 13 to secure the respective end of the strap 2 to one second upright panel 102 of the bag body 1, as shown in FIG. 1, the strap 2 divides the rectangular top-open storage chamber in the bag body 1 into two storage spaces for holding things in two groups. Further, when two multipurpose storage bags are arranged side by side, the two multipurpose storage bags can be secured together by the respective magnetic members 15 by means of magnetic attraction force (see FIG. 7).

When the multipurpose storage bag is to be placed on a floor for holding a big number of things, unfasten the swivel hook 21 from the first ring member 13 and then fasten the swivel hook 21 to the second ring member 22 at the strap 2, enabling the strap 2 to be hung on one second upright panel 102 of the bag body 1, as shown in FIG. 6. Further, two multipurpose storage bags can be arranged in the widely opened status like the arrangement of the multipurpose storage bag shown in FIG. 6, and then secured together side by side by the respective magnetic members 15 by means of magnetic attraction force (see FIG. 8).

FIG. 9 shows an alternate form of the multipurpose storage bag in accordance with the present invention. According to this embodiment, a through hole 16 is made on each of the two opposing second upright panels 102 of the bag body 1, and a cord member 5 is used to substitute for the aforesaid strap 2. One end of the cord member 5 is inserted through the through hole 16 on each of the two opposing second upright panels 102 of the bag body 1 and one of two wire holes 41 of a stop plate 4, which has a size greater than the diameter of the through holes 16, and then turned backwards and inserted through the other wire hole 41 of the stop plate 4 and the through hole 16 on each of the two opposing second upright panels 102 of the bag body 1, and then the two distal ends of the cord member 5 are inserted through a cord lock 3 (cord fastener, or cord toggle) and adjustably locked thereto. The cord lock 3 is a known device consisting of a barrel, a toggle and a spring. When the barrel, the toggle and the spring are squeezed together, tension is released and the cord lock can be moved freely along the folded cord member 5. When released the fingers from the cord lock 3, the tension is engaged and the cord lock stays in place. By means of moving the cord lock 3 along the folded cord member 5, the opening status of the top open side of the bag body 1 is relatively adjusted.

Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
