In one illustrative explanation, correlating a major scale into its relative minor scale includes moving to a 6th tone. For example, starting with the C major scale (C D E F G A B C), and if each tone is turned into a number (i.e. C is 1, D is 2, E is 3, F is 4, G is 5, A is 6, B is 7), then “A” is the 6th tone. Thus, C major and A minor can be referred to as relative keys. C is the relative major of A minor, and A minor is the relative minor of C major. Chords work the same in similar fashion. For example, a C major chord can include notes C, E, G. To correlate this chord into its relative minor chord (i.e. “A minor”), one can simply add the “6th” tone to the bottom of the chord. The result is an A minor 7 chord. As another example, if in the key of F, an F major chord can be used to identify a 6th tone, which is D, and the result is a D minor 7 chord. The present disclosure provides for a quick and easy device for correlating major and minor chords similar to the examples described above.
