Claims
- 1. An N-phenylsulfonyl-N-'-triazinylurea of the formula I ##STR16## wherein A is 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl or 3,3-difluorobutyl,
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulfinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulfonyl, --CO--R.sup.6, --NR.sup.7 R.sup.8, --CO--NR.sup.9 R.sup.10 or --SO.sub.2 --NR.sup.11 R.sup.12,
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulfinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulfonyl,
- R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 independently of one another are each hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkylthio, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -alkoxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy or --NR.sup.12 R.sup.13,
- R.sup.5 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy,
- R.sup.6 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkoxyalkoxy, hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl,
- R.sup.7, R.sup.8, R.sup.9, R.sup.10, R.sup.11, R.sup.12 and R.sup.13 independently of one another are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl,
- E is nitrogen, and
- Z is oxygen or sulfur;
- and also the salts of these compounds.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 3. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.2 is hydrogen.
- 4. A compound according to claim 1, wherein Z is oxygen.
- 5. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.5 is hydrogen.
- 6. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together contain at most 4 carbon atoms.
- 7. A compound according to claim 1, wherein the radical A occupies the 2-position of the phenyl ring.
- 8. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen and Z is oxygen.
- 9. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together contain at most 4 carbon atoms, and the radical A occupies the 2-position of the phenyl ring.
- 10. A compound according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen and Z is oxygen, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 together contain at most 4 carbon atoms, and the radical A occupies the 2-position of the phenyl ring.
- 11. N-[2-(3,3,3-Trifluoropropyl)-phenylsulfonyl]-N'-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-urea according to claim 1.
- 12. N-[2-(3,3-Difluorobutyl)-phenylsulfonyl]-N'-(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-urea according to claim 1.
- 13. N-[2-(3,3,3-Trifluoropropyl)-phenylsulfonyl]-N'-(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-urea according to claim 1.
- 14. A herbicidal and plant-growth-regulating composition wich comprises, as active ingredient, an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea of claim 1, together with a carrier and/or other additives.
- 15. A method of controlling undesirable plant growth, which method comprises applying thereto or to the locus thereof an effective amount of an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea claim 1, or of a composition containing it as active ingredient.
- 16. A method of regulating plant growth, which method comprises applying to the plants or to the locus thereof an amount effective for regulating plant growth of an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea of claim 1, or of a composition containing it as active ingredient.
- 17. A method for the selective, pre- or post-emergence controlling of weeds in crops of cultivated plants, which method comprises applying thereto or to the locus thereof a herbicidally effective amount of an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea of the formula I, or of a composition containing it as active ingredient, according to claim 15.
- 18. A method of suppressing plant growth beyond the two-leaf stage, which method comprises applying before emergence of the plants an effective amount of an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea of the formula I, or of a composition containing it as active ingredient, according to claim 16, to the cultivated area.
- 19. A method according to claim 17 for application in crops of sugar cane, cereals, maize and cotton.
- 20. A method according to claim 17 for application in soya-bean crops.
- 21. A method according to claim 17 for application in rice crops.
- 22. A method of regulating the growth of cultivated plants for the purpose of increasing yields, which method comprises applying thereto or to the locus thereof an effective amount of an N-phenylsulfonyl-N'-triazinylurea of claim 1, or of a composition containing it as active ingredient.
- 23. A method according to claim 22 for application in soya-bean crops.
- 24. A method according to claim 22 for application to leguminous cover crops.
