Claims
- 1. A guanidine derivative of the formula ##STR661## in which m represents the number zero, 1 or 2,
- R.sup.5 represents alkyl having up to 6 carbon atoms which is optionally substituted by halogen; or
- R.sup.5 represents further the radical ##STR662## wherein R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylaminocarbonyl, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino-carbonyl, hydroxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, formyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylcarbonyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylamino-carbonyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl or phenyl), C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonyl, carboxyl or phenyl), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinoxy or the radical --S(O).sub.p --R.sup.18, wherein p represents the numbers zero, 1 or 2 and R.sup.18 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylamino or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino, or
- R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 (which are identical or different) represent phenyl or phenoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylcarbonylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylamino-carbonylamino, di-(-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino-carbonylamino or the radical of --CO-R.sup.19, wherein R.sup.19 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylamino or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), or
- R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyloxy, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonylamino or the radical --CH.dbd.N--R.sup.20, wherein R.sup.20 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, cyano, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl), benzyl (which may be substituted by fluorine or chlorine), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl (which may be substituted by fluorine or chlorine), phenyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy or trifluoromethylthio, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinoxy, benzyloxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine, or R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 represent amino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylamino, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-amino, phenylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-carbonylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonylamino or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-sulphonylamino, or represent phenylsulphonylamino (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine or methyl);
- R.sup.5 represents further the radical ##STR663## wherein R.sup.21 represents hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl and
- R.sup.22 and R.sup.23 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonyl; chlorine), and di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl;
- R.sup.5 represents further the radical ##STR664## wherein R.sup.28 and R.sup.29 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or bromine), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine) or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonyl; or
- R.sup.5 represents further the radical ##STR665## wherein R.sup.30 and R.sup.31 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulphonyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine) or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminosulphonyl; or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl, and
- Z represents oxygen, sulphur, or the grouping N--Z.sup.1,

- Z.sup.1 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine or cyano), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl, benzyl, phenyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine or nitro), C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylcarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl or di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminocarbonyl;
- R.sup.2 represents the radical ##STR666## wherein R.sup.40 and R.sup.41 are identical or different and represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine), or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy (which may be substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine);
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, hydroxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl, or benzyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine or methyl),
- R.sup.9 represents hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl and
- R.sup.10 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-carbonyl), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl (which may be interrupted by a --SO.sub.2 bridge), benzyl or phenylethyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine or methyl), phenyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, trifluoromethoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-carbonyl, benzoyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-sulphonyl or phenylsulphonyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine, bromine or methyl), or
- R.sup.9 and R.sup.10 together represent C.sub.4 -C.sub.6 -alkane-diyl (which may be interrupted by an oxygen bridge); and
- M represents hydrogen, one equivalent of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, aluminium, manganese, iron, cobalt or nickel, an ammonium radical which is optionally substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl (which may be substituted by chlorine), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl and/or benzyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine or methyl), or --in the case in which M is bonded to the same nitrogen atom as R.sup.2 --also represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl (which may be substituted by fluorine, chlorine or cyano), C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkinyl or benzyl or an acid adduct thereof.
- 2. A 1:1 acid adduct according to claim 1, with an acid selected from the group consisting of hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide, hydrogen iodide, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, an alkanesulphonic acid having up to 4 carbon atoms and optionally substituted by fluorine or chlorine, or a benzene- or naphthalene-sulphonic acid which is optionally substituted by fluorine, chlorine or methyl.
- 3. A compound or adduct according to claim 1, in which
- (A) m represents the number 2 and R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR667## wherein R.sup.16 represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy, trifluoromethoxy, phenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxycarbonyl and
- R.sup.17 represents hydrogen;
- R.sup.9 represents hydrogen or methyl and
- R.sup.10 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl, phenyl, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, phenylsulphonyl or p-toluenesulphonyl; and
- M represents hydrogen, sodium, potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium; and --in the case in which M represents hydrogen-a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, benzenesulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid;
- or in which
- (B) R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR668## wherein R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 represent hydrogen or
- R.sup.16 represents chlorine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl or methoxy and
- R.sup.17 represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro or methoxy;
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or methyl,
- R.sup.9 represents hydrogen or methyl and
- R.sup.10 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl, phenyl, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, phenylsulphonyl or p-toluenesulphonyl; and
- M represents hydrogen, sodium, potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium, and --in the case in which M represents hydrogen--a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, benzene-sulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid;
- (C) R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR669## wherein R.sup.16 represents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy, trifluoromethoxy, phenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy-carbonyl and R.sup.17 represents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy or trifluoromethoxy,
- M represents hydrogen, sodium, or potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)- or tri-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-ammonium;
- and--in the case in which M represents hydrogen--a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid benzene-sulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid;
- or in which
- (D) m represents the number 2 and R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR670## wherein R.sup.16 represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy, trifluoromethoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy-carbonyl and
- R.sup.17 represents hydrogen;
- R.sup.2 represents the radical ##STR671## wherein R.sup.40 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy and
- R.sup.41 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy;
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or methyl,
- R.sup.9 represents hydrogen or methyl and
- R.sup.10 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl, phenyl, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, phenylsulphonyl or p-toluenesulphonyl; and
- M represents hydrogen, sodium or potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium; and--in the case in which M represents hydrogen--a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, suphuric acid, benzenesulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid;
- or in which
- (E) R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR672## wherein R.sup.16 and R.sup.17 both represent hydrogen, or
- R.sup.16 represents chlorine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl or methoxy and
- R.sup.17 represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro or methoxy;
- R.sup.2 represents the radical ##STR673## wherein R.sup.40 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy and
- R.sup.41 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy;
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or methyl,
- R.sup.9 represents hydrogen or methyl and
- R.sup.10 represents C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl, phenyl, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, phenylsulphonyl or p-toluenesulphonyl; and
- M represents hydrogen, sodium or potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium, and--in the case in which M represents hydrogen--a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, benzenesulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid;
- or in which
- (F) R.sup.5 represents the radical ##STR674## wherein R.sup.16 represents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy, trifluoromethoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy and
- R.sup.17 represents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, methyl, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, difluoromethoxy or trifluoromethoxy,
- R.sup.2 represents the radical ##STR675## wherein R.sup.40 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy and
- R.sup.41 represents methyl, methoxy or ethoxy;
- R.sup.3 represents hydrogen, optionally hydroxyl-substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 -alkinyl or benzyl, and
- M represents hydrogen, sodium or potassium or one equivalent of magnesium or calcium, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-, di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)- or tri-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)ammonium; and--in the case in which M represents hydrogen--a 1:1 adduct with hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, benzenesulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid.
- 4. A plant growth regulating composition comprising a herbicidally or plant growth regulating effective amount of a compound or adduct according to claim 1 in admixture with a diluent.
- 5. A method of controlling the growth of plants which comprises administering to such plants or to a habitat in which they are grown or to be grown a plant growth regulating effective amount of a compound or adduct according to claim 1.
