Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a dipeptide having the formula ##STR20## in which: R.sup.1 is a member selected from the group consisting of ##STR21## R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently amino acid side chains with the proviso that R.sup.2 is other than H and CH.sub.3, and
- R.sup.4 is a carboxy-protecting group, in a substantially epimerically pure form relative to the epimer ##STR22## said process comprising reacting an N-carboxyanhydride of the formula ##STR23## with a carboxy-protected amino acid of the formula ##STR24##
- 2. A process in accordance with claim 1 in which R.sup.2 is a member selected from the group consisting of side chains of valine, isoleucine, leucine, serine, threonine, proline, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine, arginine, asparagine, glutamine, cysteine, methionine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and histidine; and R.sup.3 is a member selected from the group consisting of side chains of glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, serine, threonine, proline, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine, arginine, asparagine, glutamine, cysteine, methionine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and histidine.
