BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention

The present invention generally relates to clipping devices. The invention, particularly relates to an article of manufacture configured for clipping nails and saving the clippings within the clippers until it is emptied.

2. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Nail clippers are generally used for cutting finger nails and/or toenails. Majority of the nail clippers include a base structure made up of two metallic blades welded at their posterior ends, and which, at their respective free ends, have a cutting edge adapted to produce nail cutting. The two metallic blades, after welding, receive a pin that passes through them at a point located close to the cutting edges. The pin presents a broadened lower head that prevents it from slipping through the hole in the lower blade of the cutter. The pin is long enough to extend through a corresponding hole in the upper blade. That hole is aligned with the corresponding hole through in the lower blade of the conventional cutter.

The upper end of the pin has a reentrance cavity located above the upper blade level, and provides support for the end of the actuating lever which, upon actuation, compresses the upper cutting blade against the lower cutting blade, thus creating movement between the cutting edges.

Conventional nail clippers present some inconveniences in using, among which is the fact that the nails that are clipped using the nail clipper are strewn around the place of clipping posing safety and hygiene issues.

An alternative is to collect the clipped nails in a separate disposer and dispose it off which ensures safety. However, such a process puts additional burden on the user.

There remains a constant need for a nail clipper that facilitates safe disposal of clipped nails.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of nail clippers now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved nail clipper with a detachable nail collector to facilitate disposal of collected mail clippings. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved nail clipper which has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

An object of the invention is to provide a nail clipper with a detachable nail collector so as to facilitate disposal of collected mail clippings.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a nail clipper with a see through window on the bottom to see the collected nail clippings.

In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

These together with other objects of the invention, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the invention, are pointed out with particularity in the disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and the specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated preferred embodiments of the invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The invention will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:

FIG. 1 depicts side view of the nail clipper as described in one embodiment of the invention; and

FIG. 2 depicts side view of the nail clipper having a detachable nail collector as described in another embodiment of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof, and in which is shown by way of illustration specific embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. These embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention, and it is to be understood that the embodiments may be combined, or that other embodiments may be utilized and that structural and logical changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention. The following detailed description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense, and the scope of the present invention is defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.

It is observed that nail clippers of the art do not facilitate disposal of collected mail clippings. Hence, to facilitate disposal of the clipped nails various methods can be employed. One of the methods employed is discussed in the present invention. According to preferred embodiment of the invention, the nail clipper comprises a first portion and a second portion. The first portion comprises a detachable nail collector for collecting the nail clipping. This provides the user with an option for safe disposal of collected nail clippings.

Referring to FIG. 1 shows side view of the nail clipper described in one embodiment of the invention. The nail clipper 10 comprises a first portion and a second portion 12. The second portion being a lever 12 rotatably coupled to the first portion. The first portion comprising a first blade 16 and a second blade 18 each having a cutting edge 14 at the anterior end, the second blade 18 coupled to the first blade 16 using a pin 26 that passes through each of the first blade 16 and the second blade 18 at a point located close to the cutting edges 14 and a detachable nail collector 22 capable of being slided on the posterior ends of the first and second blade 16, 18 so as to form a cavity. Further, the second portion 12, at the anterior end, is rotatably coupled to the first portion via the pin 26. There is also an optional barrier 20, mounted over the first and second blade 16, 18, and extending up to a reagon close to the pin 26 and extending back to the posterior end of the first and second blades 16, 18, and designed to retain the nail clippings 24 within the nail clipper 10 until they are located placed within the nail collector 22.

In operation, the pin 26 provides support for the anterior end of the second portion that functions as an actuating lever which, upon actuation, compresses the first blade 16 against the second blade 18, thus creating movement between the cutting edges 14. The cutting edges 14, when a nail is positioned in between the first blade 16 and the second blade 18, and when pressed against each other, result in clipping of the nail.

FIG. 2 depicts a side view of the nail clipper 10 having a detachable nail collector 22. In one embodiment, the detachable nail collector 22 includes at least one cavity and each of the posterior ends 25 of the first blade 16 and the second blade 18 slide into the cavity of the detachable nail collector 22.

The nail clipping generated by operating the nail clipper, 10 moves through the gap between the posterior ends 25 of the first blade and the second blade and is collected in the nail collector 22. The nail collector 22 can be detached from the posterior ends of the first blade and the second blade and the collected nail clipping 24 can be disposed in a desired location thereby ensuring safety and hygiene.

In one embodiment, each of the elements in the first portion and the second portion are made of metal. Further, the vertical space between the first blade and the second blade is covered with flexible plastic.

In a variation of the present invention, the nail collector 22 is see through, and made of a see through material, also the nail collector 22 could be made with just a window at the bottom or top (not shown) that is see through. In accordance with another embodiment, the second blade comprises at least one opening at the bottom thereby providing a see through window to view the nail clippings.

It is to be understood that the above description is intended to be illustrative, and not restrictive. For example, the above-discussed embodiments may be used in combination with each other. Many other embodiments will be apparent to those of skill in the art upon reviewing the above description.

The benefits and advantages which may be provided by the present invention have been described above with regard to specific embodiments. These benefits and advantages, and any elements or limitations that may cause them to occur or to become more pronounced are not to be construed as critical, required, or essential features of any or all of the embodiments.

While the present invention has been described with reference to particular embodiments, it should be understood that the embodiments are illustrative and that the scope of the invention is not limited to these embodiments. Many variations, modifications, additions and improvements to the embodiments described above are possible. It is contemplated that these variations, modifications, additions and improvements fall within the scope of the invention.
