Claims
- 1. An inorganic fabric, comprising:
- at least one connecting yarn in the warp direction of the fabric, said connecting yarn being combustible; and
- a plurality of inorganic fabric yarns, wherein said inorganic fabric yarns are knit as two or more narrower fabric strips connected by said connecting yarn.
- 2. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein
- said connecting yarn is a removable connecting yarn comprising fibers selected from the group consisting of acetate, azlon, rayon, triacetate, acrylic, aramid, nylon, poly(1-butene), polyethylene, poly(3-methyl-1-butene), poly(1-pentene), polypropylene, polystyrene, polyester, polytetrafluoroethylene, poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(vinyl chloride), poly(vinylidine chloride), abaca, cotton, flax, hemp, jute, kapok, linen, ramie, sisal, wool, mohair, vicuna, and silk; and
- said inorganic fabric yarns comprise fiberglass.
- 3. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein
- said connecting yarn is a removable connecting yarn comprising fibers selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, and rayon; and
- said inorganic fabric yarns comprise fiberglass.
- 4. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein said connecting yarn is knit into said fabric as one or more laid-in stitches connecting two or more fabrics.
- 5. A fabric according to claim 4, wherein said connecting yarn is a removable connecting yarn which is knit into said fabric as two or more adjacent laid-in stitches, said laid-in stitches connecting two or more fabrics.
- 6. A fabric according to claim 4, wherein:
- said connecting yarn is a removable connecting yarn and comprises fibers selected from the group consisting of synthetic polymer fibers and natural organic fibers; and
- said fabric is at least 50 mm wide prior to removal of said removable connecting yarn.
- 7. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the inorganic fabric is at least 100 mm wide prior to removal of the connecting yarn.
- 8. A fabric according to claim 3, wherein at least one of the narrower fabric strips is less than about 50 mm wide after removal of the connecting yarn.
- 9. A fabric according to claim 4, wherein at least one of the narrower fabric strips is less than about 30 mm wide after removal of the connecting yarn.
- 10. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the combustible yarn has a combustion temperature between 200.degree. and 540.degree. C.
- 11. A fabric according to claim 8, wherein the combustible yarn has a combustion temperature between 300.degree. and 540.degree. C.
- 12. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the combustible yarn has a denier less than 500.
- 13. A fabric according to claim 11, wherein the combustible yarn has a denier less than 250.
- 14. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the combustible yarn has a denier less than 100.
- 15. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the combustible yarn exhibits less than 25% shrinkage during the combustion process.
- 16. A fabric according to claim 1, wherein the combustible yarn exhibits less than 10% shrinkage during the combustion process.
