Claims
- 1. A pharmaceutically acceptable nasal composition, in dosage unit form, for nasal administration to obtain a systemic therapeutic .beta.-adrenergic blocking response in a warm-blooded animal, consisting essentially of, per nasal dosage unit, (i) a systemically therapeutically effective unit .beta.-adrenergic blocking amount of a compound having the formula ##STR2## or a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable ester of salt thereof, and (ii) a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable nasal carrier therefor, said composition being formulated as a nasal ointment or a nasal gel adapted for sustained release to the nasal mucosa.
- 2. The composition as defined by claim 1, said composition comprising a nasal ointment.
- 3. The composition as defined in claim 1, said composition comprising a nasal gel.
- 4. The composition as defined by claim 2 or 3, wherein (i) is a systemically therapeutically effective unit .beta.-adrenergic block amount of compound having the formula ##STR3##
- 5. The composition as defined by claim 2 or 3, wherein (i) is a systemically therapeutically effective unit .beta.-adrenergic blocking amount of a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt of a compound having the formula ##STR4##
- 6. The composition as defined by claim 5, wherein (i) is a systemically therapeutically effective unit .beta.-adrenergic blocking amount of propranolol hydrochloride or propranolol stearate.
- 7. A pharmaceutically acceptable nasal composition, in dosage unit form, for nasal administration to obtain a systemic therapeutic .beta.-adrenergic blocking response in a warm-blooded animal, consisting essentially of, per nasal dosage unit, (i) a systemically therapeutically effective unit .beta.-adrenergic blocking amount of propranolol stearate, and (ii) a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable nasal carrier therefor.
- 8. The composition as defined by claim 7, said composition comprising a nasal solution, a nasal suspension a nasal ointment, a nasal gel, nasal drops or a nasal spray.
- 9. The composition as defined by claim 7, said composition comprising a nasal gel.
- 10. The composition as defined by claim 9, said composition comprising a sustained release nasal gel.
- 11. Propranolol stearate.
