The present invention relates to multi-strand necklaces and sometimes referred to as tiered or layered necklaces. Currently today there are many forms of these multi-strand necklaces available. These range from a single multi-strand which cannot be altered to some with a separate, fixed attachment.
The problem with all of these is flexibility and aesthetics. Specifically, most of these provide the user or wearer with relatively few combinations and these are fixed as these typically come as a single item of jewelry. Additionally, the length of these are fixed and limited. Finally, these can be aesthetically unpleasing because of a cluttered, overlapping presentation when worn.
What is needed is a necklace and supplemental strand approach for multi-strand necklace effects that is easy to use or put on, flexible so that the user can have or choose from many options for necklace jewelry appearance and length and for which each is displayed beautifully in a multi-strand or tiered necklace with consistently spaced strands distinctively presented when worn.

As will be shown in subsequent figures and described below, by removably coupling a coupler 1211 of a supplement strand 1201 to one of the supplemental connectors in a pair (e.g. 1022) on the first side 1051 of the necklace 1001 and removably coupling the other coupler 1211 of the supplemental strand 1201 to the other supplemental connector in the pair (e.g. 1022) on the right side 1072 on the second side of the necklace 1001, a multi-strand necklace is formed with distinctive presentation of and consistent spacing between the supplemental strands at the front (i.e. opposite the necklace connection joint 1101) when the necklace is being worn because of the similar spacing between the necklace connection joint 1101 and both supplemental connectors in each supplemental connector pair 1021, 1022, 1023 and 1024. The supplemental strand 1201 is not depicted in its entirety.

As will be shown in subsequent figures and described below, by coupling together the couplers 1511 of one supplemental strand 1501 and creating a necklace connection joint, a multi-strand base necklace is formed. Then, the couplers 1511 of a second supplemental strand 1501 can be removably coupled to the supplemental connectors 1025 of the first supplemental strand. Similarly, the couplers 1511 of a third supplemental strand 1501 can be removably coupled to the supplemental connectors 1025 of the second supplemental strand. The multi-strand necklace can be added to by similarly connecting additional supplemental strands.
Because the spacing between both connectors in each pair of supplemental connectors 1025 to the necklace connection joint will be similar, the strands of the multi-strand necklace will have a distinctive presentation of and consistent spacing between the supplemental strands at the front when the necklace is being worn.
If the spacing between supplemental connector 1025 and coupler 1511 of

In similar fashion, the necklace couplers 1811 of the third supplemental strand 1801 are to be removably coupled to either supplemental strand connector pair 1023 on necklace strand 1011 or to the supplemental strand connector pair 1725 on the second supplemental strand 1701. Supplemental strand connector pair 1023 on the necklace strand 1011 and supplemental strand connector pair 1725 on supplemental strand 1701 are the same or similar distances from necklace connection joint 1101. As a result, the appearance or consistent spacing between supplemental strands 1601, 1701 and 1801 at the opposite side from the necklace connection joint 1101 is the same, whether supplemental strand connector pairs 1022 and 1023 on necklace strand 1011 are used or the supplemental strand connector pairs 1625 and 1725 on the supplemental strands 1601 and 1701, respectively are used. Accordingly, there will be no difference in appearance of the multi-strand necklace 1520 depending which pair of supplemental strand connectors is used.

The necklace sections 2103 can be made of standard necklace chain material such as gold, silver, platinum, etc. and of equal or similar length. It will be understood, however, the necklace sections 2103 may be plain, decorative or mixed styles. The ring connectors 2102 may be made of any suitable material but are, preferably, of the same material, gold, etc. as the necklace sections 2103. The ring connectors 2102, 2104 and 2109 may be of any shape such as circular, oval, etc. The size of the inner cavity of the ring connector must be large enough to easily accommodate the ends of two necklace sections 2103 being interconnected and a clasp, such as clasp 2106 or a clasp or other jewelry coupling device from a supplemental necklace strand. The length of the necklace sections 2103 or the spacing between the ring connectors 2102 is preferably the same or approximately the same (i.e. similar), and for example, 0.875 inches, to bring the desired spacing or tiered necklace look as will be explained hereafter.

Necklace 2100 may be worn as a choker and/or a short necklace depending on the length of the necklace 2100 chosen. The clasp joint 2110 is intended to be worn at the back of the neck. Consequently, the display section 2108 will be at the front of the necklace 2100 and opposite the clasp joint 2110. The display section 2108, connected to ring connectors 2102, of the necklace 2100 is preferably longer the any other necklace sections 2103 and may be the same design as the necklace sections 2103 or may have a decorative design and appearance.
The length of necklace strand 2101 is preferably 13 inches. However, for a variety of reasons, it may be desirable to have necklace strand 2101 that forms the necklace 2100, available in different lengths (e.g. 13, 14, 15 inches, etc.) to achieve different hanging effects, reduce excess sections 2103 extending from the clasp joint 2110 and/or other reasons. Similarly, it may be desirable to produce the necklace strand 2101 that forms the necklace 2100 with different display sections 2108 for different looks or appearances.
While the preferred embodiment of the necklace strand 2101 is described above with necklace sections 2103 and ring connectors 2102 similarly spaced from the ends of the necklace strand 2101, it will be appreciated that other configurations are available and within the scope of the present invention. For example, the strand 2101 could be a single, contiguous section or strand of jewelry with a plurality of supplemental strand connector devices affixed or coupled thereto and similarly spaced from the ends of the strand. The supplemental connectors may be any one of plurality of different jewelry connection devices so long as they are compatible with and removably mate with the necklace couplers (e.g. 2106).

Ring connectors 2024 are both the same or a similar distance from the necklace clasp joint 2110. Ring connectors 2023 are both the same or similar distance from the necklace clasp joint 2110 and, in this example, approximately twice as far from the clasp joint 2110 as ring connectors 2024. Ring connectors 2022 are both the same or similar distance from the necklace clasp joint 2110 and, in this example, approximately three times as far from the clasp joint 2110 as ring connectors 2024. Since the supplemental strands 2202-2204 are of similar length and are coupled or clasped to ring connectors 2022-2024, respectively, which are each successively closer in distance to the clasp joint 2110, a consistent distance is maintained between the supplemental strands 2202 and 2203 and between supplemental strands 2203 and 2204 at the front or opposite clasp joint 2110; and each supplemental strand 2202, 2203 and 2204 as well as necklace 2100 are distinctly and separately presented at the front or opposite clasp joint 2110 when the multi-stand necklace 2220 is being worn as depicted in

To form the multi-strand necklace 4470, the supplemental necklace couplers or clasps 4511 of a first supplemental necklace strand 4501 are removably connected to the ring connectors 4402 of necklace 4400. Additionally, the necklace couplers or clasps 4611 of a second supplemental necklace strand 4601 are removably connected to the ring connectors 4502 of the first supplemental strand 4501.
In multi-stand necklace 4470, the spacing or distance, from the necklace connection joint 4410 to the ring connectors in each pair of ring connectors 4402, 4502 and 4602 is similar (e.g. 1 inch, 2 inches and 3 inches, respectively). This will create the consistent spacing desired between the supplemental strands at the bottom (or opposite end from the necklace connection joint 4410, particularly, when being worn.

It will be appreciated that, in addition to supplemental strands 2201, supplemental strands 4401 may also be used, with either necklace 2100 or necklace 3180 as the multi-strand necklace base, to form a multi-strand necklace as described below. As an example, and referring now to
It will be appreciated and understood that the necklace couplers 4511 of supplemental strand 4501 could be removably coupled to ring connectors 2024 with same effect as being removably coupled to ring connectors 4402 on supplemental strand 4401 (as depicted ion
It will be understood that, within the scope of the present invention, any form of jewelry connecting devices may be used in lieu of clasps and ring connectors as described above for the necklace strands and supplemental strands so long as they are compatible with or mate with the corresponding jewelry devices they are intended to be removably coupled to or with.
It will be further appreciated and understood that, within the scope of the present invention, the necklace and supplemental strands referred to above may be worn as separate necklaces.
It will be still further appreciated and understood that, the present invention will accommodate different numbers of supplemental strands and allows the user/wearer flexibility in the amount of choices of necklace jewelry pieces and presentations.
It will be further appreciated and understood that, although the present invention has been described above primarily with respect to necklaces and multi-strand necklaces, it is applicable to other jewelry pieces having strands such as, for example, bracelets and multi-strand bracelets.
It is, therefore, intended by the appended claims to cover any and all such applications, modifications, and embodiments within the scope of the present invention.
