Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to neckties and, more particularly, to a necktie securing device.

A necktie or simply tie is a long piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck or shoulders, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat. A tie clip is a clothing accessory that is used to clip a tie to the underlying shirt front, preventing it from swinging and ensuring that the tie hangs straightly, resulting in a neat, uniform appearance. However, tie clips are exposed on the front surface of the necktie, which is not preferred to certain users.

As can be seen, there is a need for a device that prevents a tie from swaying without being exposed on the front surface of the tie.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, a necktie device comprises: a body comprising a width sized to fit within a necktie loop on a back side of a necktie, wherein the body comprises a top end and a bottom end; and a first clip attached to the body at the top end and a second clip attached to the body at the bottom end.

In another aspect of the present invention, a method of securing a necktie to a shirt comprises: providing a necktie device comprising a body with a top end and a bottom end, wherein a first clip is attached to the body at the top end and a second clip attached to the body at the bottom end; inserting the body of the necktie device through a necktie loop on a back side of the necktie; and clipping the first clip and the second clip to a front fold of a shirt.

These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 8, the present invention includes a necktie device 10 for securing a necktie to a user 32. The necktie device 10 includes a body 12, 14 having a width sized to fit within a necktie loop 26 on a back side of a necktie. The body 12, 14 may be a planar body 12, 14 and substantially flat. The body 12, 14 may include a top end with a first clip 16 and a bottom end with a second clip 16. The first and second clip 16 may be secured to and retain a front fold 28 of a shirt.

The clips 16 of the present invention may be a standard U-shaped clip with an attachment portion and a gripping portion. The attachment portion may be secured to the body 12, 14 and the gripping portion may secure the front fold 28 of the shirt in between the body 12, 14 and the clip 16. In certain embodiments, the gripping portion may include a rubber grip 18 to aid in securing the shirt to the body 12, 14.

The body 12, 14 of the present invention may be rectangular in shape and may include opposing sides, as well as a front surface and rear surface. In certain embodiments, the body 12, 14 of the present invention may include a first board 12 and a second board 14. The first board 12 and the second board 14 may be attached to one another to form the body 12, 14. In certain embodiments, the inner surfaces of the first board 12 and the second board 12 may be attached together by glue 20.

In such embodiments, the attachment portion of the clip may be secured in between the first board 12 and the second board 14. Therefore, to construct the present invention, glue 20 may be applied to one of the inner surfaces and the attachment portion of the clip 16 may be glued in between the first board 12 and the second board 14. The gripping portion wraps around the body 12, 14 and is disposed over a front surface of the body 12, 14. The front fold 28 of the shirt is secured within a gap formed in between the gripping portion and the body 12, 14. The gripping portion of the clip 16 may be spring biased towards the body 12, 14 to further secure the shirt within.

A method of securing a necktie to a shirt may include the following. The user 32 may wear a button up shirt with a front fold 28 (with button holes) and a back fold 30 (with the buttons), and secure the buttons through the button holes. The necktie may be tied around the collar of the shirt. The thin end 22 of the tie may fit through the necktie loop 26 on the back side of the wide end 24 of the tie. The body 12, 14 of the necktie device 10 may be placed within the necktie loop 26 so that the thin end 22 of the necktie is in between the body 12, 14 and the wide end 24. The clips 16 may then be secured to the front fold 28 of the shirt. Therefore, the necktie device 10 secures the necktie to the shirt of the user 32 behind the necktie without being visible.

A method of making the present invention may include the following. Two wax cardboard pieces may be used with a one inch width and a 6 inch length. Glue may be placed on one of the cardboard pieces. Then the clips may be sandwiched in between the cardboard pieces, securing the device together.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
