Claims
- 1. An integrated billing system comprising a caching server downloading multicast data to a plurality of multiplexing devices and at least one cable modem for multiplexing data and voice over one of a twisted pair wire and a coaxial cable drop respectively, the system comprising a memory including a subscriber profile for recording subscriber identity data, subscriber distribution facility data, subscriber equipment data, subscriber service data and subscriber preference data, the system further including a controller for generating an electronic bill for payment to a particular subscriber responsive to receipt from said devices of service usage data, changed subscriber identity data and preference data wherein said services comprise at least cable television services, data services and telecommunications services.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of connected devices and cable modem include a processor configured as a proxy server for allowing payment of said generated electronic bill via the Internet.
- 3. The system of claim 1 said caching server further comprising a controller coupled to said memory for outputting premium data to a premium provider responsive to the electronic payment of a generated electronic bill via a credit card issued by said premium provider.
- 4. The system of claim 1 wherein said subscriber identity data comprises employer data for reverse billing of preauthorized communications between said subscriber and their employer.
- 5. A method of providing a consolidated electronic bill for multiple services including at least cable television services, telecommunications services and data services, said method comprising, in combination, the steps of:
1. generating a consolidated electronic bill comprising the substeps of receiving service usage data, changed subscriber identity data, new subscriber equipment data and subscriber preference data; 2. providing said consolidated electronic bill to a user over a secure network; and 3. accepting payment authorization of at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill over said secure network.
- 6. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of paying at least a portion of zero or more individual bills incorporated into said consolidated electronic bill.
- 7. The method of claim 5 further including the step of performing a payor security check.
- 8. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of generating said consolidated electronic bill based at least in part upon automated meter readings.
- 9. The method of claim 6 wherein said automated meter readings are performed by an intelligent services director.
- 10. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of generating said consolidated electronic bill based at least in part upon billing information located on a remote computer.
- 11. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of accepting payment authorization for at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill by credit card.
- 12. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of accepting payment authorization for at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill by debit card.
- 13. The method of claim 5 further comprising, in combination, the step of accepting payment authorization for at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill by electronic wire transfer.
- 14. A method of providing a consolidated electronic bill comprising, in combination, the steps of:
receiving service usage data, new equipment and service install data, changed subscriber identity data and subscriber preference data from a subscriber terminal over a cable network; generating a consolidated electronic bill, said consolidated electronic bill being derived at least in part from a source selected from the group consisting of: service usage data collected by an integrated residence gateway and billing algorithm information located on a remote computer; providing said consolidated electronic bill to a user over a secure network; accepting payment authorization of at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill over said secure network, said payment authorization having a redundant security check, said payment authorization being accepted based on a type of payment selected from the group consisting of: credit card, debit card, and electronic wire transfer; and paying at least a portion of said consolidated electronic bill.
- 15. A method as recited in claim 14 wherein said subscriber identity data comprises employer data for said subscriber, said employer data including reverse billing authorization for communications to said employer.
- 16. A method as recited in claim 14 wherein said subscriber identity data comprises employer data for said subscriber, said employer data including a list of preauthorized communication addresses to which addresses communications from such subscriber are pre-authorized for billing to said employer.
