Claims
- 1. A system for controlling subscriber access to a plurality of communication network services available from a plurality of communication networks, comprising:
a router providing a gateway connection between at least first and second subscribers and said communication networks via first and second lines; an applications server apparatus coupled to said router for storing information supporting operation of said system, and for supporting operation of said subscriber access to said communication networks; said first line being a twisted pair cable and said second line being a coaxial cable for providing said plurality of services to each said subscriber; and said plurality of communication network services including at least a cable television service and a plurality of telecommunication services.
- 2. The system described in claim 1, said lines being connected to an intelligent multiplexer disposed at each of said subscriber's premises for multiplexing said plurality of services.
- 3. The system described in claim 1, wherein an interexchange company is a sole service provider for providing services on an equal basis to cable subscribers and telecommunication service subscribers.
- 4. The system described in claim 1, said applications server is coupled to said router along a fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) ring.
- 5. The system described in claim 1, said plurality of telecommunication services including at least integrated billing services, telephone services and private Intranet and Internet services.
- 6. The system described in claim 1, said router is connected to at least one of said plurality of communication networks via a trunk line.
- 7. The system described in claim 1, wherein said router trunk line connecting said router to said at least one of said plurality of communication networks operates using SONET protocol.
- 8. The systems management server described in claim 1, where said trunk line connecting said router to said at least one of said plurality of communication networks using a TR303 protocol.
- 9. The systems management server described in claim 1, where said plurality of communication networks include a SS7 network.
- 10. The systems management server described in claim 1, where said plurality of communication networks include a public switched telephone network.
- 11. The systems management server described in claim 1, where said plurality of communication networks include a private Intranet.
- 12. The systems management server described in claim 1, where said plurality of communication networks include an Internet.
- 13. A system for providing a plurality of enhanced communication services to a user comprising:
a plurality of intelligent residential gateway (IRG) apparatus disposed at said user locations for providing access to said plurality of enhanced communication services; a facility management platform (FMP) disposed at a remote location and coupled to said plurality of intelligent residential gateway apparatus via at least two of a first, second, and third means; a network server platform (NSP) coupled to said facility management platform;
said network server platform comprising:
an applications server for launching a plurality of applications and providing operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning support for said system; and a database server for storing information supporting operation of said network service platform for providing said plurality of enhanced services; said first means being twisted pair cable; said second means being coaxial cable; said third means being wireless communication; said network services platform coupled to said facility management platform for providing at least cable television services and a plurality of telecommunication services.
- 14. The system of claim 13, said database server for storing user information related to said plurality of enhanced communication services.
- 15. The system of claim 13, said facility management platform being further connected to at least one communication network via a fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) for user access to a plurality of communication networks.
- 16. The system of claim 15, where said plurality communication networks include a SS7 network.
- 17. The system of claim 15, where said communication networks include a public switched telephone network.
- 18. The system of claim 15, where said communication networks include a private Intranet.
- 19. The system of claim 15, where said communication networks include a Internet.
- 20. The system described in claim 13, said plurality of telecommunication services including at least integrated billing services, telephone services and private Intranet and Internet services.
- 21. A network server platform coupled to a network for servicing cable television and telecommunication service subscribers, the network having hybrid fiber, coaxial cable and twisted pair facilities, the network server platform comprising:
a controller; a memory; said controller for launching a plurality of applications and providing operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning support for providing said cable television and telecommunication services to said subscribers; and said memory for storing information supporting operation of said network service platform and for further storing subscriber information related to said cable and telecommunication services.
- 22. The network server platform of claim 21, said subscriber information including identity information, service information, billing information, programming information, equipment and facility information.
- 23. The network server platform of claim 21 being coupled to a facility management platform for interfacing with said television and telecommunication service subscribers via said hybrid fiber, coaxial cable and twisted pair facilities of said network.
- 24. The network server platform of claim 23 being coupled to said facility management platform via a fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) ring.
- 25. The network server platform of claim 21, said telecommunication services including at least integrated billing services, telephone services and private Intranet and Internet services.
- 26. A method of automatically providing equipment, services and information to a subscriber to network services from a network server platform comprises the steps of
determining the existing subscriber equipment and subscribed-to services, periodically receiving service usage data and user preference data including cost and time limitation data, retrieving an algorithm in response to said determning and receiving steps, offering to provide equipment, service and information responsive to the retrieval of the algorithm and automatically providing said equipment, service and information within said cost and time limitation data.
