- means for releasably retaining the terminal abutting the mounting surface and the shield between the body and the adjacent module, the retaining means being integrally formed with the body.
- 2. The neutral base module of claim 1 wherein the securing means includes a plurality of undercut prongs upstanding from a side face of the body, the prongs being adapted to reversibly and manually engage a plurality of corresponding edges on the adjacent module.
- 3. The neutral base module of claim 1 wherein the securing means includes a plurality of retaining flanges integrally formed with and externally upstanding from at least one end of the body, each retaining flange being adapted to retain the edge of the adjacent module.
- 4. The neutral base module in claim 1 wherein the shield includes a flange for abutting the mounting surface of the body.
- 5. The neutral base module of claim 1 wherein the retaining means includes a plurality of offset flanges upstanding from and located parallel to the mounting surface, the terminal having a corresponding edge adapted to be retained underneath each offset flange.
- 6. The neutral base module of claim 5 wherein each offset flange includes a distal and proximal end, the proximal end being open to receive the corresponding edge of the terminal, the distal end being closed to stop the sliding advance of the corresponding edge under the offset flange.
- 7. The neutral base module of claim 5 wherein the retaining means includes a flange extending perpendicularly from the shield, the perpendicular flange having a corresponding edge adapted to be retained underneath each offset flange.
- 8. The neutral base module of claim 7 wherein the retaining means includes at least one integrally formed fastener recessed in the mounting surface of the body, the shield having a corresponding integrally formed fastener positioned on the perpendicular flange to reversibly engage the integrally formed fastener.
- 9. The neutral base module of claim 1 wherein the retaining means includes at least one integrally formed fastener recessed in the side face of the body, the shield having a corresponding integrally formed fastener positioned to reversibly engage the integrally formed fastener.
- 10. The neutral base module of claim 9 wherein the integrally formed fastener is a prong and the corresponding integrally formed fastener is an aperture adapted to engage the prong.
- 11. The neutral base module of claim 1 wherein the terminal includes a plurality of openings adapted to reversibly retain electrical connectors therein and in a position parallel behind the shield.
- 12. The neutral base module of claim 11 wherein the retaining means manually and demountably affixes the terminal, shield, and body to one another without discrete fasteners.
- 13. A neutral base for connecting an electrical distribution device to a circuit having at least one phase, the neutral base comprising:
- a generally rectangular body having a mounting surface;
- a terminal for making an electrical connection, the terminal having a face for abutting the mounting surface of the body;
- an electrically insulating shield having sufficient size to substantially isolate the body from the adjacent module of the interior assembly, the shield abutting the body and terminal; and,
- means for releasably retaining the terminal abutting the mounting surface and the shield between the body and the adjacent module, the retaining means being integrally formed with the body.
- 14. The neutral base of claim 13 wherein the retaining means includes a plurality of offset flanges upstanding from and located parallel to the mounting surface, the terminal having a corresponding edge adapted to be retained underneath each offset flange.
- 15. The neutral base of claim 14 wherein each offset flange includes a distal and proximal end, the proximal end being open to receive the corresponding edge of the terminal, the distal end being closed to stop the sliding advance of the corresponding edge under the offset flange.
- 16. The neutral base of claim 14 wherein the returning means includes a flange extending perpendicularly from the shield, the perpendicular flange having a corresponding edge adapted to be retained underneath each offset flange.
- 17. The neutral base of claim 16 wherein the retaining means includes at least one integrally formed fastener recessed in the mounting surface of the body, the shield having a corresponding integrally formed fastener positioned on the perpendicular flange to reversibly engage the integrally formed fastener.
- 18. The neutral base of claim 13 wherein the retaining means includes at least one integrally formed fastener recessed in the side face of the body, the shield having a corresponding integrally formed fastener positioned to reversibly engage the integrally formed fastener.
- 19. A method of assembling a neutral base for connecting an electrical distribution device having an interior assembly of modules to a circuit having at least one phase, the step of the method comprising:
- manually and demountable affixing an electrically insulating shield to a generally rectangular body having a mounting surface without discrete fasteners;
- retaining a terminal on the mounting surface; and
- securing the body to at least one adjacent module of the interior assembly.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein prior to the affixing step the method further includes:
- nesting the terminal, which is useable for making an electrical connection to the electrical distribution device, between the mounting surface of the body and the shield.
