Abstract
A distinct New Guinea Impatiens plant named Celebration Hot Pink characterized by its iridescent hot pink flower color, large flowers, upright and vigorous habit, variegated leaves, floriferous habit, and excellent branching.
Description

The present invention relates to a new and distinctive cultivar of New Guinea Impatiens plant, botanically known as New Guinea Impatiens and known by the cultivar name Celebration Hot Pink. The new cultivar was developed by me through controlled breeding by crossing presently unknown male and female parents of selections of Pan American Seed, Linda Vista, Costa Rica.
Asexual reproduction by terminal cuttings taken at West Chicago, Ill., has shown that the unique features of this new New Guinea Impatiens are stabilized and are reproduced true to type in successive propagations.
The following characteristics in combination distinguish the new Impatiens from other impatiens cultivars of this type known and used in the floriculture industry.
1. Hot pink and iridescent flower.
2. Upright and vigorous habit.
3. Floriferous habit.
4. Large flowers.
5. Variegated foliage.
6. Excellent branching.
7. Flowers are positioned above the foliage in uniform display.
The new cultivar is similar in flower color to the cultivar Pulsar, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,783, with which Celebration Hot Pink can be compared. Reference is made to attached Chart A which notes dissimilar characteristics between the respective cultivars. To summarize, compared to Pulsar, Celebration Hot Pink has a more upright and vigorous habit, flowers which are held above the foliage in a uniform display, more freely flowering, more breaks per plant, variegated foliage, and larger flowers.

The accompanying colored photograph illustrates the overall appearance of this cultivar, showing colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in a colored reproduction of this type.

The following is a detailed description of my new New Guinea Impatiens cultivar based on plants produced under commercial practice in West Chicago, Ill., in a glass-covered greenhouse with day temperatures of 24.degree. to 26.degree. C. and night temperatures of 18.degree. to 20.degree. C.
Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.
