Claims
- 1. In a process for the catalytic hydrogenation of an unsaturated fatty compound, the improvement which comprises using, as the catalyst, a finely dispersed nickel boride stabilised with a linear organic polymer, said catalyst being prepared by a process in which an at least partly dissolved nickel salt containing less than 6 molecules of crystal water in the presence of an at least partly dissolved polar linear polymer of vinylpyrrolidone is reduced with the aid of an alkali borohydride.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the amount of catalyst used, calculated as nickel, is between 5 and 500 ppm.
- 3. A process as claimed in claim 2 wherein the amount of nickelboride catalyst is between 5 and 200 ppm.
- 4. A process as claimed in claim 3 wherein the cataylst is dispersed in a triglyceride.
- 5. A process as claimed in claim 4 wherein the unsaturated hydrocarbon which is hydrogenated is a triglyceride.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the hydrogen pressure is between 100 and 500 kPa and the temperature is between 20.degree. and 180.degree. C.
- 7. The process of claim 6 wherein the polymer is polyvinylpyrrolidone.
