Claims
- 1. An artificial nipple for infants comprising:
- (A) a base portion;
- (B) a deformable teat portion secured to said base portion and including an outer portion providing it with a predetermined shape at rest and an inner portion with which a resilient member is associated;
- (C) an electrically powered emitting device integral with said base portion; and
- (D) drive means, including electrical contacts, operative to close an electrical circuit to said emitting device in response to deformation of said resilient member occurring in response to deformation of said test portion by the buccal muscles of a sucking infant, whereby to generate a sensory reactional signal perceptible to the infant independently of the second reactional deformation of said test portion and indicative of a change of state of said nipple from an inactive state to an active state brought about the sucking action of the infant.
- 2. An artificial nipple according to claim 1 wherein said resilient member comprises a resiliently flexible bar having one end secured to said base and the other end freely engaging said outer portion of said test portion and wherein said outer portion is deformable.
- 3. An artificial nipple according to claim 2 wherein said bar comprises successive rigid portions connected together through resilient means.
- 4. An artificial nipple according to claim 1 wherein said teat portion comprises a rigid member including a disk and a straight bar supported through sliding means with respect to said base; said resilient member comprises a spring, one end of which engages said bar and the other end of which engages said base; said base and said disk are shaped to form a vestibular screen and a tongue leaning support respectively; and said drive means is operated to activate said emitting device in response to sliding of said bar with respect to said base against the action of said spring.
- 5. An artificial nipple according to claim 4 wherein said bar is provided at the end thereof opposed to said disk with a gripping means which is operative to provide hand activation of said emitting device.
