Claims
- 1. A flame retardant elastomeric composition suitable for forming into fibers comprising a fluorinated elastomer selected from the group consisting of polyvinylfluoride, polyvinylidenefluoride, copolymer of vinyldiene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene and mixtures thereof and a flame retardant comprising a brominated organic compound selected from the group consisting of hexabromobenzene, decarbromodiphenyl and mixtures thereof, said flame retardant being present in an amount sufficient to render said compositions substantially nonflammable in environments containing up to 70% oxygen.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said fluorinated elastomer is present in an amount of from about 15 to about 65% by weight.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 including a curing agent selected from the class consisting of N,N' - dicinnanylidene-1-6-hexane diamine, hexamethylenediamine carbamate and malemide N-(-4-carboxyphenol) malemide.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein said curing agent further includes a metal oxide.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein said fluorocarbon resin comprises a copolymer of vinylidine fluoride and hexafluoropropylene.
