Claims
- 1. A nonbleeding bias charging member comprising an outer layer on a supporting substrate, wherein said outer layer comprises a material having fluorinated carbon and zinc oxide fillers dispersed therein.
- 2. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said outer layer material is selected from the group consisting of fluoroelastomers, polyamides, polyimides and epichlorohydrin.
- 3. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 2, wherein said outer layer material comprises a polyamide.
- 4. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 2, wherein said outer layer material comprises a fluoroelastomer.
- 5. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said supporting substrate is a bias charging roll.
- 6. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein the fluorinated carbon is of the formula CFx, and x represents the number of fluorine atoms.
- 7. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 6, wherein the fluorinated carbon is of the formula CFx, wherein x is from about 0.02 to about 1.5.
- 8. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 7, wherein the fluorinated carbon is of the formula CFx, wherein x is from about 0.04 to about 1.4.
- 9. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 8, wherein said fluorinated carbon is selected from the group consisting of ACCUFLUOR® 1000 having a fluorine content of 62 weight percent, ACCUFLUOR® 2010 having a fluorine content of 11 weight percent, ACCUFLUOR® 2028 having a fluorine content of 28 weight percent, and ACCUFLUOR® 2065 having a weight content of 65 weight percent.
- 10. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 9, wherein the fluorinated carbon is present in an amount of from about 5 to about 10 percent by weight ACCUFLUOR® 2028 having a fluorine content of 28 weight percent, and from about 2 to about 3 percent by weight ACCUFLUOR® 2010 having a fluorine content of 11 weight percent, based on the weight of total solids.
- 11. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 10, wherein the fluorinated carbon is present in an amount of from about 2 to about 3 percent by weight ACCUFLUOR® 2028 having a fluorine content of 28 weight percent, and from about 2.5 to about 3 percent by weight of ACCUFLUOR® 2010 having a fluorine content of 11 weight percent, based on the weight of total solids.
- 12. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 11, wherein the fluorinated carbon is present in an amount of from about 2 weight percent of ACCUFLUOR® 2028 having a fluorine content of 28 weight percent, and 3 percent by weight of ACCUFLUOR® 2010 having a fluorine content of 11 weight percent, based on the weight of total solids.
- 13. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said zinc oxide is present in an amount of from about 1 to about 15 percent by weight of material in the outer layer.
- 14. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 13, wherein said zinc oxide is added in an amount of from about 5 to about 8 percent by weight of material in the outer layer.
- 15. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said supporting substrate comprises an underlayer positioned on said supporting substrate.
- 16. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 15, wherein said underlayer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of epichlorohydrin rubber, silicone rubbers, ethylene propylene diene monomer, urethane, styrene-butadiene, nitrile-butadiene, fluoroelastomers, fluorosilicones, and copolymers thereof.
- 17. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 15, wherein said outer layer has a thickness of from about 0.5 to about 5 mm.
- 18. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 17, wherein said underlayer has a thickness of from about 1 to about 4 mm.
- 19. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 15, wherein the filled outer layer has a volume resistivity of from about 105 to about 1012 ohm-cm.
- 20. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 19, wherein the filled outer layer has a volume resistivity of from about 107 to about 1011 ohm-cm.
- 21. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said outer layer exhibits an absence in bleeding of contaminants when contacted with an imaging member for a period of time.
- 22. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 21, wherein said period of time is one week.
- 23. A nonbleeding bias charging member in accordance with claim 22, wherein said outer layer is contacted with an imaging member at a temperature of 50° C. and 95 percent relative humidity.
- 24. A nonbleeding bias charging member comprising an outer layer on a supporting substrate, wherein said outer layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of fluoroelastomers and polyamides, and wherein said outer layer further comprises fluorinated carbon and zinc oxide fillers dispersed therein.
- 25. An electrostatographic machine comprising a biasable member capable of receiving an electrical bias, wherein said biasable member comprises a nonbleeding outer layer on a supporting substrate, wherein said nonbleeding outer layer comprises a material having fluorinated carbon and zinc oxide fillers dispersed therein, and wherein said biasable member is electrically conductive.
