Claims
- 1. A nonlinear optical medium comprising a transparent solid substrate with a surface coating of at least one monolayer of a naphthoquinodimethane composition corresponding to the formula: ##STR12## where R is a substituent selected from hydrogen and alkyl groups containing between about 1-20 carbon atoms.
- 2. A nonlinear optical medium in accordance with claim 1 wherein the surface coating is a Langmuir-Blodgett deposition of at least one monolayer of uniaxial aligned polymer molecules.
