Claims
- 1. A nonwoven web formed of a multiplicity of fibers or filaments comprised of about 4% to about 90% by volume of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyolefin selected from the group consisting of homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene, propylene and butylene; about 10% to about 96% by volume of a hygroscopic filler having a particle size less than about 10 microns; said fibers or filaments having a void volume greater than about 20%.
- 2. A waterlaid paper web formed of a multiplicity of fibers or filaments comprised of about 4% to about 90% by volume of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyolefin selected form the group consisting of homopolymer and copolymers of ethylene, propylene and butylene; about 10% to about 96% by volume of a hygroscopic filler having a particle size less than about 10 microns; said fibers or filaments having a void volume greater than about 20%.
- 3. The web of claim 2 which has been calendered.
- 4. The waterlaid paper web of claim 2 in which a portion of the fibers area cellulosic fibers.
- 5. The web of claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the ratio of filler to polyolefin is between about 1:1 and about 20:1.
- 6. The web of claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the filler comprises between about 60% and about 96% by volume.
