Claims
- 1. A silver powder product formed of nonplanar, essentially flake-shaped particles, wherein said particles which are characterized by an average thickness of less than about 0.2 micron thick and further characterized by a bulk density of from 0.15 to 0.85 gram per cc.
- 2. A silver powder product as defined in claim 1 formed of a mass of thin, flake-shaped particles and further characterized by a bulk density of less than about 0.5 gram per c.c.
- 3. A paste composition of matter comprising a silver flake product as defined in any of claims 1, or 2 and an organic resin matrix.
- 4. An electroconductive composition of matter comprising an organic resin matrix and, dispersed within said matrix, silver flake particles of the type as defined in claim 1, said flake particles being of the kind which are characterized by a translucent character.
- 5. An electroconductive composition of matter comprising an organic resin matrix and non-planar silver flake particles forming an electroconductive path therein, the improvement wherein
- said flake is a flake product which is characterized by a translucent character when received by transmitted light and said product being further characterized by a bulk density below 0.85 gram per cc.
- 6. In an electroconductive composition comprising an organic resin matrix and non-planar silver flake particles forming an electroconductive path therein, the improvement wherein
- said flake is a flake product characterized by an average particle thickness of less than about 0.2 micron and further characterized by a bulk density of from 0.15 to 0.85 gram per cc.
- 7. In an electroconductive composition as defined in claim 5 comprising an organic resin matrix and silver flake particles forming an electroconductive path therein, the improvement wherein
- said flake is a flake product, a thin flake-shaped particle characterized by a bulk density of less than about 0.50 gram per cc.
- 8. In an electroconductive composition comprising an organic resin matrix and silver flake particles forming an electroconductive path therein, the improvement wherein
- said composition is of the type defined in claims 5, 6, or 7 said flake is present, as a percentage or organic resin and flake, in a weight percent of less than 50% by weight.
- 9. In a coating having a removable liquid vehicle, of less than about 12 mils thickness, and dryable to form an electroconductive composition of matter comprising an organic resin matrix and silver flake particles forming an electroconductive path therein, the improvement wherein
- said composition is of the type defined in claims 5, 6, or 7 and wherein said flake is present, as a percentage of said organic resin and flake, in a weight percent of less than about 60% by weight.
- 10. A process for forming an electroconductive coating of up to about 12 mils in thickness from a composition comprising an evaporable liquid vehicle, an organic resin binder component, and a conductive powder, said process comprising the steps of
- (1) incorporating into said composition a quantity of silver flake effective to import electrical conductivity to the composition on evaporation of said liquid vehicle, said flake being non-planar and characterized by a bulk density of less than about 0.85 gram per cc and an average thickness of less than about 0.2 micron, but less than 60% by weight of the binder and flake when together and
- (2) coating a substrate with said composition and
- (3) evaporating said liquid vehicle.
