Claims
- 1. A nonwoven fabric comprising a plurality of polymeric filaments bonded to one another to form a nonwoven web with a basis weight between about 0.2 ounces per square yard and about 7.0 ounces per square yard, said fabric comprising at least two different denier sizes of filaments such that the larger denier filaments comprise at least about 5%, by number, of the filaments; and wherein said larger denier filaments are at least 5 denier.
- 2. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein the denier of the larger denier filaments is at least 1.25 times larger than the denier of the smaller denier filaments.
- 3. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 2, wherein the larger denier filaments are at least about twelve denier.
- 4. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 2, wherein the number of larger multilobal filaments comprise at least about 25% of the total number of filaments and the remaining balance of the total number of filaments being smaller denier multilobal or round filaments or a combination of both.
- 5. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 4, wherein the larger multilobal filaments are twelve denier multilobal filaments and the balance are smaller filaments are five denier multilobal filaments or four denier round filaments or a combination of both.
- 6. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 2, wherein the number of larger round filaments comprises at least about 25% of the total number of filaments and the remaining balance of the total number of filaments being smaller denier multilobal or round filaments or a combination of both.
- 7. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 6, wherein the larger round filaments are twelve denier round filaments and the smaller filaments are five denier multilobal filaments or four denier round filaments or a combination of both.
- 8. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein the large filaments comprise at least about 25%, by number, of the total number of filaments in the fabric, said larger filaments being of both round cross section and multilobal cross section with at least about 5% of the total number of filaments being of large round cross section and the remaining number of large filaments being of multilobal cross section, the remaining balance of all filaments in the total fabric being smaller denier multilobal or round filaments or a combination of both.
- 9. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein the large filaments comprises at least about 25%, by number, of the total number of filaments in the fabric, said larger filaments being of both multilobal cross section and round cross section with at least about 5% of the total number of filaments being of large multilobal cross section and the remaining number of large filaments being of round cross section, the remaining balance of all filaments in the total fabric by number being smaller denier multilobal or round filaments or a combination of both.
- 10. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 8, wherein the larger filaments are twelve denier multilobal and twelve denier round filaments, and the balance of the filaments of the total fabric are smaller, five denier multilobal or four denier round filaments or both.
- 11. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein the filaments of said fabric are autogenously bonded to one another at discrete points throughout the fabric.
- 12. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 11, wherein the bonded area of the fabric is about 5% to about 50% of the total fabric area.
- 13. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 11, wherein the bonded area of the fabric is about 18% to about 22% of the total fabric area.
- 14. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein said filaments are nylon.
- 15. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 1, wherein said filaments are polyester or polyolefins or a mixture of both.
- 16. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 9, wherein the larger filaments are twelve denier multilobal and twelve denier round filaments, and the balance of the filaments of the total fabric are smaller, five denier multilobal or four denier round filaments or both.
- 17. The nonwoven fabric according to claim 3, wherein the larger denier filaments are trilobal or round filaments.
