Claims
- 1. A process for synthesizing the optically pure (-) or (+) isomer of an arylalkanolamine compound comprising the steps of reducing a halo-substituted phenylalkylketone with optically pure (-) or (+)-diisopinocampheylhaloborane to obtain an optically active haloalcohol of essentially 100% ee, and reacting said alcohol with an amine represented by the formula NR'R" wherein R and R" are the same or different members of the group consisting of hydrogen or lower alkyl to obtain the desired optically pure (+)- or (-)-arylalkylaminoalcohol.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the diisopinocampheylhaloborane is diisopinocampheylchloroborane.
