The present invention relates to the piston in the hunting shotguns, which is one of the components enabling the shotgun to operate.
The invention relates in particular to a new piston structure, wherein the piston element, one of the important parts of the gas operated semi-automatic hunting shotguns, enabling said shotgun to operate, is improved and thus many drawbacks are overcome.
Today, the gas operated semi-automatic hunting shotguns are widely used. In the semi-automatic hunting shotguns in use, the piston rings are generally located inside the piston ring slots formed on the piston. The duty of the piston rings assembled into the grooves and/or slots opened on the piston is to provide the smooth operation of the shotgun by preventing the leakage of the powder gas formed upon the explosion of the cartridge.
The utility model application no. TR200400910U of ATA AV TÜFEKLERI SAN. TIC. LTD. STi. mentions about the piston element, one of the functional components enabling the shotgun to operate, and its backup apparatus, in the gas operated hunting shotguns.
However, there are some drawbacks formed during the operation of the piston. Sometimes, especially in the high pressure cartridges, the powder gas enters underneath the piston ring on the piston, leading the piston ring to come out of the slot and/or the groove into which it is placed. In such a case, the shotgun goes out of order and fails to operate.
It is required to replace the piston or the piston rings on the piston, meaning extra maintenance and labor costs. Also, the lifetime of the piston becomes shortened and in case the replacement of the piston ring on the piston is not carried out, the shotgun does not operate. The assembly of the piston rings on the piston is difficult. Special piston ring tools are needed to assemble the rings into the piston ring slots on the piston. This leads to some undesirable conditions. Moreover, the need has arose to improve the known piston structure, in order to prevent the piston ring from coming out of its slot under high pressure and to extend the lifetime of the piston. In this manner, the operational lifetime of the shotguns will be extended and an efficient operation will be obtained.
Based on the state of the art, the object of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks in the existing piston structure and to develop a new piston element, which prevents the piston ring from coming out of its slot under the high gas pressures.
Another object of the invention is to provide that the piston element is comprised by two parts and that the piston ring is positioned between said two parts.
Another object of the invention is to provide that the piston ring slot/groove is obtained by screwing the two parts that constitute the piston element and that the piston ring is positioned between said two parts and screwed in place.
Another object of the invention is to mount the piston ring assembly protrusion formed on the piston ring into the piston ring groove formed inside one of the two parts constituting the piston element, and thus to screw said two parts to complete the assembly.
In order to achieve said objects, the female element and the male element are formed to be mounted on the piston body. The piston ring is mounted between the female and the male element. Female and male element are screwed to be assembled to each other and the assembly protrusion on the piston ring engages into the slot and/or the groove formed inside the female element. In this way, the gas leakage from underneath the piston ring and the piston ring's dislocation from its slot are prevented at high pressure. The operational lifetimes of the shotguns are extended and a more efficient operation is obtained.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, in order to enable the piston element to be formed by screwing the two parts and positioning the piston ring between the same, there are provided at least one female part connected with at least one male part, forming the piston element, and also at least one sealing member positioned between the male and female parts.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is formed at least one sealing member housing on the inner surface of the female part. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one screwed end formed on the male part comprises at least one assembly protrusion formed on the sealing member, to be mounted into the sealing member housing inside the female part.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, there are formed at least one piston ring space obtained by combining the female part and the male part, and at least one piston ring secured and mounted on the piston ring space in the female part.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the piston element is made of two parts, and at least one piston ring is positioned between these two parts.
Our invention relates to the piston element (4), which enables the gas pressure operated shotguns to operate, wherein the piston element (4) is formed from two parts (1, 3), said two parts (1, 3) are screwed to each other and they are mounted along with the sealing member (2) positioned between the same as these are being screwed. In this way, the sealing member (2) is prevented from being affected by the high gas pressures. In case of the sealing member (2) being replaced, said replacement is enabled to be easily carried out by way of detachment of the two parts.

On the other hand, in positioning the piston ring (2) between the male and the female elements (1, 3), the assembly protrusion (5) on the piston ring (2) may also be mounted and screwed in a piston ring housing (6) possible to be formed on the male element (3).
