Claims
- 1. A tablet comprising:
a pharmaceutically-inert coating, wherein the coating comprises a polymer film-forming agent; and a tablet core, wherein the tablet core comprises a pharmaceutically effective amount of an extract of the root of Valerian, wherein the tablet core is coated by the pharmaceutically-inert coating.
- 2. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the polymer film-forming agent is selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyalkyl cellulose wherein the alkyl group has between 1 and 10 carbon atoms, and a methacrylate copolymer.
- 3. The tablet of claim 2, wherein said hydroxyalkyl cellulose is selected from the group consisting of hydroxyethyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose.
- 4. The tablet of claim 2, wherein said methacrylate copolymer is selected from the group consisting of methacrylic acid copolymers, aminoalkylmethacrylate copolymers, and ammoniomethacrylate copolymers.
- 5. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises a plasticizer.
- 6. The tablet of claim 5, wherein said plasticizer is selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, glycerin, trimethylolpropane, polyethylene glycols, dibutyl sebacate, acetylated monoglycerides, diethylphthalate, triacetin, glyceryl triacetate, acetyltriethyl citrate and triethyl citrate.
- 7. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises an anti-tackiness agent.
- 8. The tablet of claim 7, wherein said anti-tackiness agent is selected from the group consisting of talc, silicon dioxide, silica hydrogel, microcrystalline cellulose, alkali stearates, and starch.
- 9. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
- 10. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating comprises a water soluble polymer or compound.
- 11. The tablet of claim 10, wherein said water soluble polymer is selected from the group consisting of hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, acacia, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, dextrin, alginic acid, ethylcellulose resin, gelatin, guar gum, liquid glucose, methylcellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium alginate, starch, zein, polyvinylpyrrolindone, vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer, vinyl acetate-crotonic acid copolymer and ethyl acrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer.
- 12. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises an odor-masking agent.
- 13. The tablet of claim 12, wherein the odor-masking agent has an odor that is more pleasant than the odor of the extract of the root of Valerian.
- 14. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the tablet core further comprises an odor-masking agent.
- 15. The tablet of claim 14, wherein the odor-masking agent has an odor that is more pleasant than the odor of the extract of the root of Valerian.
- 16. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the coating further comprises a colorant.
- 17. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the coating further comprises a scent.
- 18. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the coating further comprises a flavoring agent.
- 19. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the tablet core further comprises a disintegrant.
- 20. The tablet of claim 1, wherein the tablet core further comprises a filler.
- 21. The tablet of claim 20, wherein the filler is spray dried lactose monohydrate.
- 22. A tablet comprising:
a pharmaceutically-inert coating, wherein the coating comprises a first polymer film-forming agent, a second polymer film-forming agent, and a plasticizer; and a tablet core, wherein the table core comprises a pharmaceutically effective amount of an extract of the root of Valerian, wherein the tablet core is coated by the pharmaceutically-inert coating.
- 23. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the tablet core further comprises a disintegrant.
- 24. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the tablet core further comprises a filler.
- 25. The tablet of claim 24, wherein the filler is spray dried lactose monohydrate.
- 26. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the first polymer film-forming agent is selected the group consisting of a hydroxyalkyl cellulose wherein the alkyl group has between 1 and 10 carbon atoms, and a methacrylate copolymer.
- 27. The tablet of claim 26, wherein said hydroxyalkyl cellulose is selected from the group consisting of hydroxyethyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose.
- 28. The tablet of claim 26, wherein said methacrylate copolymer is selected from the group consisting of methacrylic acid copolymers, aminoalkylmethacrylate copolymers, and ammoniomethacrylate copolymers.
- 29. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the second polymer film-forming agent comprises a methacrylate copolymer, a hydroxyalkyl cellulose and an anti-tackiness agent.
- 30. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises a plasticizer.
- 31. The tablet of claim 30, wherein said plasticizer is selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, glycerin, trimethylolpropane, polyethylene glycols, dibutyl sebacate, acetylated monoglycerides, diethylphthalate, triacetin, glyceryl triacetate, acetyltriethyl citrate and triethyl citrate.
- 32. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises an anti-tackiness agent.
- 33. The tablet of claim 32, wherein said anti-tackiness agent is selected from the group consisting of talc, silicon dioxide, silica hydrogel, microcrystalline cellulose, alkali stearates, and starch.
- 34. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
- 35. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating comprises a water soluble polymer or compound.
- 36. The tablet of claim 35, wherein said water soluble polymer is selected from the group consisting of hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, acacia, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, dextrin, alginic acid, ethylcellulose resin, gelatin, guar gum, liquid glucose, methylcellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium alginate, starch, zein, polyvinylpyrrolindone, vinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer, vinyl acetate-crotonic acid copolymer and ethyl acrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer.
- 37. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the pharmaceutically-inert coating further comprises an odor-masking agent.
- 38. The tablet of claim 37, wherein the odor-masking agent has an odor that is more pleasant than the odor of the extract of the root of Valerian.
- 39. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the tablet core further comprises an odor-masking agent.
- 40. The tablet of claim 39, wherein the odor-masking agent has an odor that is more pleasant than the odor of the extract of the root of Valerian.
- 41. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the coating further comprises a colorant.
- 42. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the coating further comprises a scent.
- 43. The tablet of claim 22, wherein the coating further comprises a flavoring agent.
