Claims
- 1. A lubricating oil composition comprising from about 50% to about 90% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125, and at least 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of an ester of phthalic acid having a viscosity index of less than 100.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein said ester of phthalic acid is from about 10 to 50% by weight of the total oil composition.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein said ester of phthalic acid is from about 15 to 40% by weight of the total oil composition.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein said ester of phthalic acid has a viscosity index of less than 90.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein said ester of phthalic acid is selected from the group consisting of: dioctyl phthalate, didecyl phthalate, didodecyl phthalate, diisoctyl phthalate, diisononyl phthalate, diisodecyl phthalate, diisododecyl phthalate, ditridecyl phthalate, di-n-butyl phthalate, diisobutyl phthalate and mixtures thereof.
- 6. The composition of claim 4 wherein said ester of phthalic acid is diisodecyl phthalate.
- 7. A lubricating oil composition of claim 1, wherein said lubricating oil composition comprises from about 60% to about 85% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125.
- 8. A lubricating oil composition of claim 7, wherein said lubricating oil composition comprises from about 65% to about 80% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125.
- 9. A method of improving fuel economy and wear of an internal combustion engine comprising treating moving surfaces of said engine with a lubricating oil composition comprising from about 50% to about 90% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125, and at least 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of an ester of phthalic acid having a viscosity index of less than 100.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said lubricating oil composition comprises from about 60% to about 85% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein said lubricating oil composition comprises from about 65% to about 80% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, of poly alpha olefin synthetic base oil having a viscosity index of at least 125.
