Claims
- 1. An oil soluble dispersant useful as an oleaginous composition additive comprising the reaction products of:
- (1) nitrogen containing adduct consisting essentially of Mannich condensation product formed by condensing (a) long chain hydrocarbyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compound with (b) aldehyde and (c) polyalkylene polyamine, said adduct containing at least one reactive amino group, wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl in (1 )(a) is an olefin polymer having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 10,000; and
- (2) at least one polyepoxide.
- 2. The dispersant according to claim 1 wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl in (1)(a) has a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 5,000.
- 3. The dispersant according to claim 2 wherein said reactive amino is a secondary amino group.
- 4. The dispersant according to claim 2 wherein said polyepoxide contains at least two oxirane rings wherein one oxirane ring carbon atom in at least one of the oxirane rings is bonded to two hydrogen atoms.
- 5. The dispersant according to claim 4 wherein the second oxirane ring carbon atom in said at least one of the oxirane rings is bonded to a hydrogen atom.
- 6. The dispersant according to claim 5 wherein said hydrocarbyl is polyisobutylene, polybutenyl, or mixtures thereof.
- 7. The dispersant according to claim 1 wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl is selected from polybutenyl, polyisobutenyl, and mixtures thereof.
- 8. The dispersant according to claim 2 wherein said hydrocarbyl has a number average molecular weight of from about 900 to about 2,500.
- 9. A lubricating oil composition comprising:
- (A) major amount of lubricating oil; and
- (B) at least a dispersant effective amount of reaction product consisting essentially of
- (1) nitrogen containing adduct consisting essentially of Mannich condensation product formed by condensing (a) long chain hydrocarbyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compound with (b) aldehyde and (c) polyalkylene polyamine, said adduct containing at least one reactive amino group wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl in (B)(a) is an olefin polymer having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 10,000; and
- (2) at least one polyepoxide.
- 10. The composition according to claim 9 wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl in (B)(a) has a number average molecular weight of about 700 to about 5,000.
- 11. The composition according to claim 10 wherein said reactive amino group is a secondary amino group.
- 12. The composition according to claim 10 which is an additive concentrate comprising about 5 to 40 wt. % of reaction product (B).
- 13. The composition according to claim 9 wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl is selected from polybutenyl, polyisobutenyl, and mixtures thereof.
- 14. The composition according to claim 13 wherein said long chain hydrocarbyl is polyisobutenyl of about 850 to 1,000 number average molecular weight.
- 15. The composition according to claim 9 wherein said polyepoxide contains at least two oxirane rings wherein at least one oxirane ring carbon atom in at least one of the oxirane rings is bonded to two hydrogens.
- 16. The composition according to claim 15 wherein the second oxirane ring carbon atom in said at least one of the oxirane rings is bonded to a hydrogen atom.
- 17. The composition according to claim 16 wherein said hydrocarbyl in (B)(a) is polyisobutenyl.
- 18. The composition according to claim 17 wherein said polyisobutenyl has a number average molecular weight of from about 900 to 2,500.
