Claims
- 1. A process for the polymerization of olefins which comprises contacting said olefins with the catalyst system comprising:
- a. a solid inorganic support material having surface hydroxyl groups,
- b. a chromium containing compound deposited on said support, said chromium containing compound being capable of reacting with said surface hydroxyl groups, and
- c. an aluminum compound deposited on said support, said aluminum compound being capable of reacting with said surface hydroxyl groups,
- said supported chromium containing compound and aluminum compound having been heated in a non-reducing atmosphere at a temperature above 300.degree. C. up to the decomposition temperature of the support material and combined with a metallic or non-metallic reducing agent.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the non-metallic reducing agent is a trialkyl borane.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the polymerization is carried out in the presence of hydrogen.
