Claims
- 1. A polyolefin polymer monolithic article comprising crosslinked molecularly oriented polymeric polyolefin fibers bound together by a recrystallized polymer melt phase comprising from 10% to 50% by weight of the polymer in the article wherein both fibers and recrystallized polymer melt phase are derived from a precursor assembly of crosslinked molecularly oriented polyolefin polymer fibers by partial melting of that precursor assembly.
- 2. A polyolefin monolithic article prepared by a process wherein an assembly of fibers of molecularly oriented polyolefin polymer is subjected to a compaction stage wherein the assembly is maintained in intimate contact at an elevated temperature sufficient to melt a proportion of the polymer, and is compacted, wherein prior to the compaction stage the fibers have been subjected to crosslinking.
