Claims
- 1. A camera frame assembly, for use with a roll of photographic film, said camera frame assembly comprising:
- a frame having a film take-up chamber, a film roll chamber, and an intermediate section between said chambers, said film roll chamber defining a cylindrical film space, said film space being empty of axial support for the film, said film roll chamber having a throat exterior to said film space and a pair of opposed ends; and
- a guard fixed to said frame in partial occlusion of said throat; said guard having a gate portion and a stem portion, said gate portion facing said intermediate section and defining a film slot, said stem portion being joined to said throat in fixed position relative to said throat, said stem portion having a pair of opposed margins, said margins being inset from said ends of said film roll chamber, and said margins and said film roll chamber defining at least one accessway extending through said throat and communicating with said film space.
- 2. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 further comprising a back cover connected to said frame, said back cover overlying said chambers and said intermediate section, said back cover being separated from said film space by said guard.
- 3. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said guard extends at least halfway across said throat.
- 4. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said film roll chamber has a sidewall and at least one end wall joined to said sidewall and said film roll chamber defines an axis of said cylindrical film space, said gate portion and said intermediate section together define a film slot aligned with said film space axis, said margins of said stem portion being transverse to said film slot.
- 5. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said camera frame assembly further comprises means for moving film between said film chambers, said means consisting of a non-rewinding film transport connected to said frame, said film transport being operatively disposed to move said film, on a frame-by-frame basis, in only one direction from said film roll chamber, through said film slot, to said film take-up chamber.
- 6. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said margins and said film roll chamber define two accessways communicating with said film roll chamber.
- 7. The camera frame assembly of claim 6 wherein said film space has a film space axis and said film space axis extends through at least one of said accessways.
- 8. The camera frame assembly of claim 6 wherein said guard and said intermediate section define a film portal having a film slot adjoining said film roll chamber and a film entryway adjoining said take-up chamber and wherein said film roll chamber has a pair of end walls and a sidewall extending between said end walls, and said film space is accessible only through said film portal and said pair of accessways.
- 9. The camera frame assembly of claim 8 wherein one of said endwalls has a central opening, said film roll chamber and said central opening define one of said pair of accessways.
- 10. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said guard has a pair of film roll restraints adjoining said film roll space, said film roll restraints being disposed to contact the film roll at a pair of opposed edges of the film roll.
- 11. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said guard and said intermediate section define a film portal having a film slot adjoining said film roll chamber, said margins and said film roll chamber define a first accessway, said film roll chamber has a pair of opposed end walls and a sidewall extending between said end walls, one of said end walls having a central opening, said opening and said film roll chamber defining a second accessway, and said film space is accessible only through said film portal and said first and second accessways.
- 12. The camera frame assembly of claim 11 wherein said film space has a diameter smaller than a diameter of said second accessway, said diameters being parallel.
- 13. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said film space has a central axis, and said frame has a pair of opposed film roll restraints axially bounding said film roll chamber.
- 14. The camera frame assembly of claim 13 wherein said film roll chamber has a pair of opposed endwalls and a sidewall extending between said endwalls.
- 15. The camera frame assembly of claim 14 wherein said guard includes said film roll restraints.
- 16. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said film roll chamber has a pair of opposed endwalls and a sidewall extending between said endwalls, and said guide is joined to one of said endwalls in light-tight relation.
- 17. The camera frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said frame and said guard have the same rigidity, and said guard is fixed to said frame in fixed relation to said throat.
- 18. A camera frame assembly, for use with a photographic film cartridge having a roll of photographic film, said camera comprising:
- a frame having a film cartridge chamber for receiving said film cartridge, a film roll chamber, and an intermediate section between said chambers, said intermediate section defining a film path between said chambers, said intermediate section having a pair of opposed, fixed abutments delimiting said film path, said film roll chamber defining a cylindrical film space having a film space axis extending transverse to said film path, said film space being empty of support for said film along said film space axis;
- a guard joined to said frame, said guard being disposed in fixed relation to said frame, said guard extending over said film space and closely adjoining said intermediate section, at least one of said film roll chamber and said guard defining at least one accessway communicating with said film space, said accessway being intersected by said film space axis.
- 19. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 wherein said film roll chamber and said guard define two separated accessways.
- 20. The camera frame assembly of claim 19 wherein both said accessways are intersected by said film space axis.
- 21. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 wherein said guard overlaps said film space axis.
- 22. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 wherein said guard extends fully across said film space.
- 23. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 further comprising a one-way film transport for moving said film, on a frame-by-frame basis, from said film roll chamber to said film take-up chamber.
- 24. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 wherein said guard has a gate portion, a stem portion joined to said gate portion, and an extension joined to said gate portion opposite said stem portion, said gate portion closely adjoining said intermediate section, said gate portion and said intermediate section together defining a film slot communicating with said film space, said stem portion being joined to said film roll chamber, said extension overlying said intermediate section.
- 25. A film-loaded assembly comprising:
- a camera frame assembly including:
- a frame having a film cartridge chamber, a film roll chamber, and an intermediate section between said chambers, said intermediate section defining a film path between said chambers, said film roll chamber defining a cylindrical film space having a film space axis extending transverse to said film path;
- a guard joined to said frame in fixed position relative to said frame, said guard extending over said film space and closely adjoining said intermediate section, at least one of said film roll chamber and said guard defining at least one accessway communicating with said film space, said accessway being intersected by said film space axis; and
- a film cartridge including a canister disposed in said film cartridge chamber and a filmstrip;
- said film space being empty of support for said filmstrip along said film space axis.
- 26. The assembly of claim 25 wherein said intermediate section has a pair of opposed, fixed abutments delimiting said film path, and said filmstrip has a terminus lodged in said film take-up chamber, a trailer extending along said film path, and a film roll disposed in said film space, said trailer being confined in directions parallel to said film space axis by said abutments, said film roll being confined in directions radial to said film space axis by said film roll chamber and said guard.
- 27. The assembly of claim 26 wherein said film roll is confined in at least one axial direction by said frame.
- 28. The assembly of claim 27 wherein said film roll is confined in two axial directions by said frame.
- 29. The assembly of claim 25 wherein said guard extends between said abutments.
- 30. A camera frame assembly, for use with a roll of photographic film, said camera frame assembly comprising:
- a frame having a film take-up chamber, a film roll chamber, and an intermediate section between said chambers, said film roll chamber defining a cylindrical film space, said film space being empty of axial support for the film, said film roll chamber having a throat exterior to said film space and a pair of opposed ends; and
- a guard partially occluding said throat; said guard at least partially overlying said intermediate section, said guard having a stem portion joined to said frame, said guard being disposed in fixed position relative to said throat, said stem portion having a pair of opposed margins, said margins being inset from said ends of said film roll chamber, and said margins and said film roll chamber defining at least one accessway extending through said throat and communicating with said film space.
- 31. The camera frame assembly of claim 30 wherein said guard and said intermediate section define a film portal having a film slot adjoining said film roll chamber and a film entry adjoining said take-up chamber.
- 32. The camera frame assembly of claim 31 wherein said guard includes a platen.
- 33. The camera frame assembly of claim 30 further comprising a back cover connected to said frame, said back cover overlying said chambers and said intermediate section, said back cover being separated from said film space and at least partially separated from said intermediate section by said guard.
- 34. A camera frame assembly, for use with a photographic film cartridge having a roll of photographic film, said camera comprising:
- a frame having a film cartridge chamber for receiving said film cartridge, a film roll chamber having a pair of opposed ends, and an intermediate section between said chambers, said intermediate section defining a film path between said chambers, said film roll chamber defining a cylindrical film space having a film space axis extending transverse to said film path;
- a fixed, rigid guard joined to said frame, said guard extending over said film space, said guard having a gate portion and a stem portion, said gate portion facing said intermediate section, said stem portion being joined to said frame, said stem portion having a pair of opposed margins, said margins being inset from said ends of said film roll chamber, said margins and said film roll chamber defining at least one accessway communicating with said film space.
- 35. The camera frame assembly of claim 34 wherein said film space axis extends through said accessway.
- 36. The camera frame assembly of claim 34 wherein said guard includes a platen overlying said intermediate section.
