Claims
- 1. An apparatus for loosening or tightening threaded lids from containers or jars comprising:
- a) a base plate;
- b) a torque head assembly;
- c) drive means for rotating the torque head assembly;
- d) a biasing means, positioned intermediate said torque head assembly and said drive means for engaging the container lid to be loosened or tightened; and
- e) means positioned between the biasing means and the torque head assembly for providing friction resistance to the rotation of the torque head assembly; and
- f) containment means for holding said container in stationary position while said biasing means turns the lid on the container.
- 2. The apparatus in claim 1, further comprising means for raising and lowering the torque head assembly.
- 3. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein the biasing means is attached between a large outer disc and a smaller inner disc, said smaller inner disc imparting biasing of the biasing means around the outer wall of the container lid in order to rotate same.
- 4. The apparatus in claim 3, wherein the outer disc and inner disc, rotate independently until biasing of lid, at which point the discs rotate in unison to turn the container lid.
- 5. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein said base plate comprises a guide for said containment portion.
- 6. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein said torque head assembly utilizes a self-sizing strap loop.
- 7. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein said drive means comprises an electric drive motor.
- 8. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein said biasing means further comprises a pair of plates recessed on one face, to accommodate compression springs and a plurality of compression springs.
- 9. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein the friction means further comprises a friction washer of cork.
- 10. The apparatus in claim 1, wherein said containment means comprises:
- a) a bottom and at least three vertical walls;
- b) a strap, attached to one end of the exterior of one of said vertical walls, its free end passing through a slot in said vertical walls, forming a loop inside said containment by passing its free end again through said slot;
- c) a friction strip, attached to one side of said strap for griping containers;
- d) a lubricated strip, attached to the interior of at least one vertical wall adjacent to said slot;
- e) a plurality of ball rolling means located on the bottom of said containment to allow mobility; and
- f) a guide rod means, for restricting mobility to semi-linear travel.
- 11. The containment means as in claim 10, wherein said strap may further comprise a hook portion of a hook and latch strip attached to one side of its free end for mating with the latch portion of the strip attached to the exterior of one of said vertical walls.
- 12. The containment means as in claim 10, wherein said guide rod means is attached to one vertical wall.
- 13. The containment means as in claim 10, wherein said guide rod means is square and attached to said containment bottom for retaining said means to said base plate and for resisting travel in said base plate.
- 14. A containment apparatus, for retaining securely a jar while removing its lid comprising:
- a) a bottom and at least three vertical walls;
- b) a strap, attached at one end to the exterior of one of said vertical walls, its free end passing through a slot in said vertical wall, forming a loop inside said containment by passing its free end again through said slot;
- c) a friction strip, attached to one side of said strap for griping container lids; and
- d) a lubricated strip, attached to the interior of one vertical wall adjacent to said slot.
- 15. The containment means as in claim 14, wherein said strip may further comprise a hook portion of a hook and latch strip attached to one side of its free end for mating with the latch portion of the strip attached to the exterior of one of said vertical walls.
- 16. The containment means as in claim 14, wherein said containment further comprises; a cover lid therefor and a plurality of suction cups on said bottom, for securing to a counter top.
