Claims
- 1. An optical amplifier comprising:
an optical amplifying medium having a multiplexed light input thereto and providing an output of amplified multiplexed light; an excitation source which excites said optical amplifying medium; and at least one of a first monitoring means for monitoring the amplified multiplexed light from said optical amplifying medium and a second monitoring means for monitoring the multiplexed light input to said optical amplifying medium; wherein an operation amount of said excitation source for said optical amplifying medium is controlled using a is monitoring result output from at least one of said first and second monitoring means.
- 2. An optical amplifier in accordance with claim 1, wherein said first monitoring means comprises:
a first optical branching means for branching the amplified multiplexed light from said optical amplifying medium to extract a part of the amplified multiplexed light; and a second optical branching means for further branching the amplified multiplexed light branched by said first optical branching means.
- 3. An optical amplifier in accordance with claim 2 wherein said first monitoring means further comprises:
a first optical receiver for detecting the amplified multiplexed-light branched by said second optical branching means and converting the amplified multiplexed light into an electric signal; a first separating means for separating a probe light from the amplified multiplexed light branched by said second optical branching means; and a second optical receiver for detecting the probe light and converting the detected probe light into an electric signal.
